Interesting Graphic

I find this interesting. I believe that in the future there will be much more role differentiation in the armed forces. Everything from lightly equipped to advanced snipers to heavily armored ground forces. I also expect advanced in firearms.

DIY Ait Gun Fun

Everyone is up in arms about 3D printed guns. Forget that. 3D printers are very expensive. I have a garage and a pile of various tools. I even have an air compressor!

Interesting Idea

I can remember when I outgrew my small steel safe. Back then I didn't have room for a bigger one in my bedroom closet.

If I had thought of this idea I would have done it. You could get one from Freecycle.org or Craigslist.com for free! Simple locking freezer refit would be an inexpensive solution to keeping your guns safely locked away from kids and hidden enough to keep a lot of smash and grab burglars away. It would be easy to add a dehumidifier too.

Hidden Storage

A friendly reader sent me a photo of a cool gun storage idea.

This got me thinking that it might be a good idea to have some guns stashed about in handy, but secure places.

There would be several good reasons to do this:

1) They are more easily at hand in case of an emergency.

2) Burglars would have a greater challenge. Plus they could activate a secondary security system.

3) I love hidden rooms and compartments!

Using the simple idea as depicted, creating a simple drawer could be done in many locations. It's height need only be two inches to contain most firearms. This kind of compartment could be integrated into furniture, counter cabinets, bars, shelves and even walls with the right location.

--I will have to look at this idea more closly. Might be a project!

DIY James Bond

A friend sent me this photo knowing I am a gun enthusiastic. My first thought was that is was a waste of a nice Browning Auto 12ga shotgun.

Once I got thinking about it I started to consider what I would do differently on a "do it yourself" vehicle mounted system on a budget.

First a few general notes:

• It should have a super bright, remote activated, green LASER sight.
• Cover the muzzle a small piece of duct tape to keep out debris.
• It needs a remote safety activation system. And "Arm" and then "Fire" kind of thing.
• It should be highly reliable. It needs to be shaking, dirt, heat resistant.
• It should be reasonably high capacity. This picture shows a shotgun with a 5 round capacity.
• It should be Mag fed for capacity and ease of reloading.
• It should be segregated from the engine compartment in some way. 

If the main point of the system was Road Warrior style tire destruction I would use a Saiga 12ga with a really short barrel. I would remove the stock and mount it lower near frame level. I would enclose the whole thing in a  box that would both protect it from engine and road dirt. It would also catch the ejected shell casings. The AK architecture would allow an easy mechanical safety switch. Make it big enough to hold the big drums.

Another option would be a Glock 9mm rig. There are 100 round mags available for it. Like the brief case MP5 systems that are out there.

All this presumes you don't have the money fore a wild, belt fed, system. Know your local regulations!

Wild Ass An Idea #243

There was a great view on the balcony of the convention center where the annual NRA convention was held. Just in front of the Media room was the view below of this railroad bridge to no where.

You see trains no longer use this bridge. The near end In fact no longer even has tracks.

I wonder if I could buy this bridge? Enclose it, and make a 200 or 300 yard, indoor, rifle range.

What a great shooting club that would make. I would add modern, automatic, target systems. Remote monitors with close up views of the targets. It's big enough it could be multi-leveled, like driving ranges! That bridge is strong enough to hold tons of sand for a backstop and armor the range itself!

A restaurant with an observation level! A sweet gun shop!
