There is this awesome, ever so adult cartoon called Archer.
The dialog is so funny. The characters are completely politically incorrect. Not only does it have all kinda excellent cars, babes, cursing, sex and violence. It has excellent guns.
The artists on the show actually draw firearms so you can recognize the makes and models!
Terms of Rampagement was so damn funny I almost pissed myself.

The Third Thousand
Say hello to my little friends |
I am currently into my third batch of a thousand rounds of .45ACP.
Most of it has spewed out of my Glock 21. It's my goto SHTF working gun. I probably only have 600 rounds through my 1911. But at least it's not jamming so much any more.
It is sick how much .223, .308, .40cal and 9mm I have blown through. It was odd that I did not have any receipts for .22LR even though I shoot more of that annually than any other ammo.
--Gotta go buy some 12 gauge.
WANT: Barrett M95
Barret M95 Sniper Rifle |
It is a .50 BMG for those who do not know the Barrett line. It is a bull pup configuration, bolt action, mag fed and has integral bi-pod.
I have to say that I really want one of these. It will be very handy during the Pending Killer Robot Uprising.
I shutter to think how much money I would end up spending on a scope for that bad boy. Where do you find bulk quantities of .50 BMG ammo so it costs a bit lower that $5 a round.
Then I would have to find the best place to fire the thing! Probably have to buy some land just for a range!
--Can you deer hunt with a .50 BMG.
Cross Chest Scoped Handgun Holsters
Yesterday in the comments about my handgun Quiet Mark, I was whining about the fact that the gun was tough to holster while it has the large DOT scope attached.
Bubblehead Les recommended an across chest holster specifically designed for handguns with scopes for hunting. Mad Saint Jack sent a link for another good looking one.
So my magical Google Fu immediately activated and I discovered a huge variety of options. I am going to have to go to Gander Mountain or Bass Pro and handle a few. The ones I saw on the web vary big time in style and price.
I will need to get one. Thanks Les!!

Quiet Mark is Quiet and Fixed
Quiet Mark - Ruger Mark III with Suppressor |
It is so quiet it still freaks me out.
It took about 4 months for the paperwork to get processed. When I finally got it in hand I was so excited.
And in short order I was disappointed by how often it jammed. Feed jams, stove pipes, double feeds it was a nightmare. Well not a nightmare, but a pisser.
After whining about it to TBolt and anyone else that would listen I took everyone's advice and completely disassembled the thing, clean, examine, and played chase the springs.
I believe what eventually fixed it was a very thorough polish of the feed ramp.
Now it never fails.

WANT: K-11
South Korean K-11 |
Requirements are as follows:
- Uses AR lower and mags.
- Same trigger can fire either via switch.
- 12 gauge upper.
- Mag fed 12 gauge.
- Picitinny top and bottom.

At The Movies: Sucker Punch
Actress Abbie Cornish has confessed that she “totally fell in love” with guns while filming her new movie Sucker Punch. Based on the Previews, it will be a totally whacked steampunk sword and gun fest. Did they make this specifically for me?
Abbie plays Sweat Pea in the flick about a woman who is institutionalized by her stepfather and retreats to an alternative reality as a coping mechanism.
She says while filming the demanding action sequences in the movie, she was surprised to discover that she likes guns. I'm not surprised. Guns are FUN!
In an interview in GQ magazine's April issue, she said: 'I'm a vegetarian – I'm not the type to want to go shoot a gun... Then I actually got to the range and totally fell in love with an M4. It was kind of amazing."

It's Potty Time
Dramatic Re-enactment |
Apparently one of the security guards left it on top of the toilet paper holder while he was taking a dump (along with the comics).
It got me thinking about my various safe handling procedures I use in this situation. For me it all depends on what holster and firearm I have.
Shoulder holsters are no issue at all. No prob.
If I am wearing my heavy belt and one of several holsters that have double connections, it's also no problem.
I have several, inside the waistband, holsters that have a single clip and could turn over and topple out if I am not careful. These holsters I may actually take out first. I just hold them while takin care of business.

Pools
There is gun content in this post! Sheesh, be patient...
Pools are dangerous:
How are children protected?
We teach them to swim. We take time to make sure they know the Rules of Safe Pool Use. We test them to make sure they can swim safely.
This is exactly the attitude we should have with firearms/shooting!

Pools are dangerous:
- There were more than 3300 unintentional drownings in the United States, an average of 9 per day.(CDC 2006)
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
- For children 1-4 years old who died, 26% died from drowning (CDC 2006). Fatal drowning remains the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1 to 14 years (CDC 2005)
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
- It is estimated that for each drowning death, there are 1 to 4 non-fatal submersions serious enough to result in hospitalization. Children who still require CPR at the time of arrival to the emergency department have a poor prognosis, with at least half of survivors suffering significant brain damage.
American Academy of Pediatrics
- 19% of drowning deaths involving children occur in public pools with certified Lifeguards present.
Drowning Prevention Foundation
- Children under five and adolescents between the ages of 15-24 have the highest drowning rates.
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
- An estimated 5,000 children age 14 and under are hospitalized due to unintentional drowning-related incidents each year; 15 percent die in the hospital and as many as 20 percent suffer severe, permanent neurological disability. National Safety Council
- Of all preschoolers who drown, 70 percent are in the care of one or both parents at the time of the drowning and 75 percent are missing from sight for five minutes or less.

Sharing Rules
Booger Hook |
While checking out my new guns I had to remind him to keep his finger off the triggers. I was shocked to discover he had NEVER heard of the Four Rules. Listed here for your reference:
- Treat every gun as if it is loaded.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
- Don't point your gun at something you don't want destroyed.
- Know your target and what's behind and around it.
--Time to make a 4 Rules poster up and post it in my shop.

Air and Space and Guns!
I love the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport.
It is the companion facility to the Museum on the National Mall. The building opened in December, 2003, and provides enough space for the Smithsonian to display the thousands of aviation and space artifacts that cannot be exhibited on the National Mall. The two sites together showcase the largest collection of aviation and space artifacts in the world.
I have been there several times. The exhibits continue to roll in. The last time I was there I discovered a new aviation related firearms exhibit!
If you every get a chance stop by and see them. This history, these artifacts are not to be seen anywhere else. Even books and websites are thin on these artifacts.

Injuries
Ever since I turned 50 I have been trying to get into shade. A shape other than round.
Last year, I lost 40 pounds. I want to do the same this year. To that end I have started working out at the gym and got myself a personal trainer. I have been slowly pushing myself, with her help, harder and harder slowly. Recently I inflamed an old injury.
About ten years ago I slipped on the ice, landed on my elbow and dislocated my shoulder. I tore my rotater cuff. It took over a year before it was right after that. The loss of sleep is a huge hassle too. My wife and I even switched sides on the bed so I could more easily favor my right shoulder.
As it stands right now I would not dare shoot a rifle or shotgun with heavy recoil. Even hand guns will give me a thrill I'm sure. If it was an emergency and I was gunning and running from Zombies this would be damn inconvenient.

Tight
I bought a new holster for my Beretta Px4 .40cal.
I got a Galco. It's my usual goto brand these days. A good combination of selection, quality and cost. It is available in Black or Brown. I got black because black is the new black.
I have several Galco brand holsters and never had any issues. Until this one.
It is Sooo tight.
The fine print on the package says that it is for a Px4 in .40 and 9mm. I think mine is the fat sister of the two.
To mitigate the fit I will be storing it in the holster and wearing it a lot for the next month. I usually do no store my guns in their holsters. My Dad use to store his guns like that. They corroded them in places. It wasn't bad but obvious. And those holsters were not as tight as this!

Glocks
I love my Glocks.
They are my goto guns in an emergency. I would not want to suffer a level 4 Zombie Apocalypse without them. They never jam, they never complain, they will happily shoot any ammo and they can stand up to lots of abuse.
I have a Glock 17 9mm and a Glock 21 .45 ACP. I do need to get a lot more magazines.
I think I will get a suppressor to for the 9mm and then convert it to an SBR with one of the Hera Arms or EMA Roni conversion kits.
I will then have a silenced 9mm carbine that has the reliability and will eat anything I can feed it.

I always use the change for Daylight Savings Time to remind me to do a few things:
- Change batteries in the smoke detectors
- Change the water in my car (2 liter)
- Change the power bars in my Bug Out Bag
- Do a full disassemble cleaning of my Five Gun System
- Consider the worse case scenario and do something to prepare for it
Low on Space?
For many years, like many people, I lived in a rental. They were usually small. I was not allowed to modify them. My landlords and who knows how many others had keys.
Many people have a difficult time finding a place to secure their firearms collections. I am always on the look out for creative solutions.
One of the most interesting methods is the Bed Safe. This safe replaces the standard box spring on your queen size bed.
While it is not the fastest access to your firearms, it does represent a massive amount of secure space.
Once bolted together it would be damn difficult to be carried off by burglars, even if they did find it!

Trigger Discipline
I bought a new cordless drill. I needed one badly. My Makita lasted longer than my second marriage but finally gave up the ghost. I bought a new Hatachi 18 volt at Lowes that also came with an excellent flashlight that uses the same batteries.
The story is gun related! Be patient, sheesh...
Anyway, like every middle aged, homeowner, husband, father, new cordless drill owner, I was running around the house doing tons of little projects.
The daughter asks, "Dad, is something wrong with your finger?"
I immediately looked at the one with the hide scraped off from changing the battery in my van.
"No that one." pointing at my right index finger, my trigger finger, pointing straight along side the drill in stead of on the trigger.
I laughed and said, "Trigger discipline."
--She rolled her eyes in a perfect teen age daughter moment.

Gear: Monocular
The best gear is the gear you have with you when you need it.
I can't always take my binocs with me, even though i would love to have some. At the Northcoast Blogshoot, fellow blogger TBolt brought out a handy-dandy Monocular. When he told me how modest the price was ($18) I could see no reason not to have one.
I might buy several. No reason every glove compartment should not have one. My range bag needs one. My fanny pack, my bug out bag, even my tactical pants!
The Barska Atlantic Monocular can even be had at Amazon.

The Want List
I got up early last Sunday.
I stacked up and scheduled a pile of posts and in the process was thinking about the Want List.
I am very much an opportunist buyer. I usually don't shop for something specific, I just wait for something to fall withing my field of view that I have wanted. Most recent example was the Saiga 12 gauge. I happened to see it, new, when I made my weekly visit to a local store to check out the consignment cases.
If I see it and have the cash. It comes home with me. Problem is that some items on my want list I never see in person. I have still never seen a PMR-30 in person and I'd buy that if I did. I saw a KRISS .45acp carbine at the Nations Gun Show but it was over priced.
One of the guns I see all the time that I have almost bought on many occasions is the Ruger 10/22 Charger. One of those will find it's way into my safe some day soon. Mostly because it's great cheap fun to shoot!
--Come on PMR-30. Cross my path!!

State Guns
Soon to join the sego lily, Rocky Mountain elk and sugar beet as official symbols of the state of Utah, they have moved to name the Classic Colt M1911 as its state firearm. Not far behind them and Arizona proposes the historic Colt revolver the official state firearm.
I have been trying to think what Virginia should propose. What should all the rest of the states should pick?
I think Illinois should have the Thompson sub-machine gun. Alabama should have a double barrel shotgun. Florida should have a stainless S&W 9mm (from Miami Vice)...
--It all has the added benefit of pissing off anti-gunnies.

Quote of the Day
"The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with."

News Stands
This week I actually went to an honest to God News Stand.
You remember those places that have lots of magazines, the paper kind, not the bullet holding kind.
I was actually amazed in the variety and quantity of big glossy magazines about guns. More now than I had ever seen in the past.
Mags about hunting, new guns, specific guns, dedicated 1911, AR-!5 and AK-47 magazines.
Classic titles and new.
Take some time soon and find a really good magazine stand and check out the Guns section.
--And then check out the female body builder section!! WooHoo!

Anyway, I was filling out forms. There were lots of questions like; what meds are you taking, past medical history, do you smoke, do you drink, etc. The questions started to get much more personal. Do you have AIDS, Herpes, and a list of other things I had never heard of. And then it was, do you wear seat belts? and finally:
Do you have guns in your home?
WTF? I asked for another form and did not fill in anything. Let them ask. I would tell them it was none of their damn business to their face.
--Good thing he didn't ask if I had a gun on me. He may not have like the answer.

State legislatures push forward on right to keep and bear arms
"The left has permanently lost the argument on gun control. Despite their best efforts to take advantage of the tragic shooting in Arizona to promote pointless restrictions on things like the size of handgun magazines, the propaganda campaign is unlikely to go anywhere. Instead, the right to keep and bear arms continues to gain steam as state lawmakers around the country are enacting measures that would have been unthinkable not so long ago."
"On Monday, Wyoming lawmakers sent Gov. Matt Mead a “castle doctrine” bill that recognizes the right of residents to use a gun to protect themselves from home invasion or carjacking without fear of civil or criminal prosecution. A spokesman for Mr. Mead said the governor would review the proposal today, along with a second bill granting residents the ability to carry concealed weapons without a permit. The lawmakers also proposed a constitutional amendment recognizing the perpetual right to hunt, fish and trap."

Lights Out
I just finished reading the book Lights Out by David Crawford.
"Downloaded from the internet over three million times, this exciting, action-packed, survival story is finally available in book form. Lights Out chronicles the challenges of Mark “Karate Man” Turner when the lights go out over most of the free world. He must find in himself the ability to unite his family, friends, and neighbors if any of them are to survive the harsh reality that everyday life becomes when the veneer of civilization is stripped away."
The story is about everyday survival after a major EMP attack that sends the country into the dark. I mention it here because it is chock full of detailed gun content. In fact it has characters discussing the relative utility and practical use of all kind of firearms from small .22 revolvers, to 1911's, Glocks, AK47s, ARs, BMG .50's and a lot more.
It's a good story as well. I read the first 10 chapters online. I was hooked and had to buy one!

Ammo Storage Idea Update
5000 rounds of fun in handy bottles |
I started out using Diet Coke bottles. I have since moved to Diet Snapple.
Why? I'll tell you, sheesh... so impatient.
The wide mouth is the key. Snapple 20oz bottles hold 550 rounds of .22lr each. The plastic is sturdier too. I also tried them with other ammo types I buy in bulk. Loose bullets in a box style. First I tried .223 in hopes I could create a medium capacity grab and go size. It' works pretty good with wide mouth bottles but not good at all with regular mouth bottles. They jam up to easily when being poured out. Even .22lr does it to some extent.
All hand gun calibers work well too. I buy 9mm, .40, and .45 by the ammo can size. These bottles give you a good option between a full ammo can and a single box no matter what cal you are shooting. I also have some Alice-Pack pouches that two of these bottles fit in perfectly and it will stay dry in the rain or if you take it swimming!!
--Gotta go buy more Snapple!!
