My wife took her concealed carry training class this week. She wants me to find a shoulder rig for her.
Weather finally got freezing cold.
It is a long weekend for me with MLK Monday off. I should be able to get a lot of writing done.
I am really hating the media today. We have a safer world now than we have ever had. They use fear to sell soap.
I am mostly tired of the term "Gun Violence" as if other kinds of murder doesn't count.

Speaking of the gun show. It has gotten bigger. Another room has been added that is the size of a gymnasium, but it was still really crowded.
I also saw bulk quantities of subsonic .300 Blackout. Cheaper on-line still, even with shipping.
My 19 year old son asked if a shotgun was a possible Christmas gift. I'm still smiling.
--Time to go to work.
Storage!
Are you short on storage for your firearms? This might be a good solution for some folks. I recommend adding a simple lock if it doesn't have one already to keep the kids out.

Tool for Hiding a Gun
I am always on the lookout for good ways to hide and store my guns. This vid shows you how to make a quick and easy and cheap gun magnet.
I could use a series of these on the inside of the door of my safe. I could use it to stash one behind my headboard or a bedside table.
It might even have utility in the trunk of my car.

Headboard Hidden Storage
Most beds are against the wall and would work with this kind of simple DIY setup. I kind of like the tree house carpenter nature of the thing!
The same kind of thing could be integrated onto the back of a dresser or a side table. I am sure the an inexpensive holster could also be fixed there.
--I am thinking of setting up a similar rig to hold a pistol grip shotgun.
More stash options
The photos on the side here I saw in Pinterest.com. Lots of good options and DIY projects can be found there.
There are also more and more manufacturers of hidden storage solutions for guns and other valuables. The latest one I have seen is called Covert Furniture.
I wish I had my Grandfathers huge roll top desk. We use to love to lay down on his desk and close the roll top and then eat his stash of malted milk balls he kept in a hidden compartment. Sometimes he'd catch us and lock the top close for a while and pass us notes through the mail slots.
This lesson tells us that if you have small kids, hiding stuff doesn't work, so train those kids about gun safety.

Storage Solutions
One of these in the back of my closet would have fit the bill very nice.
Walking it in and out in this would also not freak out the elderly democrat former hippie that lives in 3C. Though guitar cases also worked well for transport. (but only if you have a concealed carry permit!)
Make sure you have a strong clothes rod. Not those thin white shelf things made of wire and hope.
You you actually make a home project out of this. Go to Salvation Army and get the right size garment bag. Sew in some Velcro and start adding gear.
Plus the right garment bag will already have lots of pockets and compartments.
--Just don't run it through the scanner at the airport. You might wake the TSA guy.
More Hidden Storage
This is a DIY stash for a full size AR15. The concept is interesting though unfinished in execution.
I hope this isn't blocking an actual vent for heat or AC. My vents always end up full of dirt and dust.
The important lesson is to know your home. Know the gaps in the walls that can be exploited for hidden storage.
The same idea can also work well for a handgun in a discrete spot.

I want to find a handy solution for storage that is in my living room.
Yesterday, I had to leave early for work because I had a doc appointment in the afternoon. I forgot to set up the coffee timer. I never got ANY coffee all day.

It looks like this is a cool DIY project. It looks simple enough if you have wood working skills.
I could not find it anywhere on the web besides Pinterest.
There are great solutions if you are really limited on space. Like my first apartment!
It's a good way to keep your guns handy, even long guns!

Another DYI Gun Safe
This not only locks, it has really good internal volume.
It could even be plugged in so it could have interior lights, dehumidifier and maybe even some security systems.
I would also remove all the compressor and motor gear and install a drawer in the bottom.

DIY: Gun Safe
I have a tall, five drawer filing cabinet that I could see being refit like this.
As I was looking at mine I might have seen a design flaw. If you make these mods and fill it up with long guns, then slide open the drawer, it could tip.
The advantage of the file cabinet normally is that you open only one drawer at a time.
To make this work you would really need to bolt the whole thing to the floor or the wall behind.
I can't say that this would even be good hidden storage. Burglars would still open it. This lock would slow them down but not stop them.
--This would be useful for keeping your kids out.
Concealed Storage
The solutions from TacticalWalls are pretty cool for quick and handy solutions.
Fast and handy is the key when the Zombies are at the door.
The locking mechanisms use magnetic keys that do not have keyholes and it keeps them secure and hidden. I really want to see one in person before I buy one.

Couch Safe!
This is a really good option for homes that have a lot of room or people that have a lot of guns and need more and more places to stash them.
This one even has bulletproof inserts in the cushions.
