Friends

The wife and I had dinner with friends last night. They are recent transplants from New England.

Conversation eventually turned to good places to go shooting. He had been to the range at NRA HQ so far.

We told them all about Elite Shooting Sports in Manassas VA. We also discussed Bull Run Shooting Center.

I love living in Virginia where they remember what freedom is like...

Range Day

I took two more new shooters to the range for their first time.

One is a friend that has been talking about going shooting with me for months, maybe years. She also brought her 21 year old niece.

Her niece was raised in a very liberal democrat house where guns were always depicted as magically corrupt and evil. In college she has come to understand that guns are not evil or even the problem. Police states are.

We had all the time we wanted so we shot a large selection of hanguns:
  • Suppressed Ruger Mark II - .22LR
  • Ruger SP101 - .357mag
  • Smith & Wesson 539 - 9mm
  • Glock 17 - 9mm
  • Beretta Px4 - .40cal
  • Kahr - .45ACP
  • Glock 21 - 45ACP
The SP101 revolver was the one she liked shooting the most. She liked being able to tell it's loaded at a glance, the simplicity of operation, reliability, and the level of recoil while shooting .38 Special. She likes the single/double action.

She tried everything. The recoil of the 9mm's was manageable for her. She shot the S&W 9mm very well but didn't care for the complexity, for now. The .45's were too much recoil and the Glock 21 grip was too big.

Her niece was more recoil averse. She tried the 9mm's. She was okay with .38's but enjoyed the .22 a lot.

It was a good day. She wants to go again soon. She also wants to go to the next gun show with me. She is all about the grip comfort. She is even talking about moving out of DC to VA for FREEDOM!

The Grey Man

My friend OldNFO finally found something to do with all his spare time besides causing trouble!

"The Bad Guys Don't Stand a Chance Texas rancher and lawman John Cronin knows what it means to be tough. A decorated Vietnam vet with connections to law enforcement agencies all around the world, he’s thwarted smugglers and drug plots across the globe with more than a few narrow escapes. Whether it’s a sniper competition or teaching the feds a thing or two about police work, Cronin doesn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. Of course, this slow-talking lawman’s biggest challenge yet might be when his granddaughter Jesse falls in love with a Marine. When drug smugglers stir up trouble in Cronin’s backyard and try to kill Jesse and her new beau, all hell breaks loose, and Cronin and his granddaughter are just the people to set things right."

It is available in Kindle and Nook as well as dead tree version!

Doc Appt Today

I am heading in for yet another damn doc appointment for my back problem. My L4-5 disk is basically gone.

It has seriously cut into my range time. Mostly because simply standing for an hour hurts, dammit.

My next range trip will be taking two more new shooters. These two are friends that go to my church. Both are moms with grown kids and are having Adventures.

They are doing stuff like sky diving, driving a NASCAR track, repelling, and learning to shoot.

They want to try Rifles, Handguns and Shotguns.

--It should be fun. Doc appointment, not so much...

Back from Vacation

The Tiny Menace
I have been on vacation camping at Pennsic for a full two weeks. It was very relaxing.

I confess that the blog posts for the last two weeks were scheduled in advance via the magic of mystical blogger tools.

I spent most of the time in my favorite hammock reading SciFi books and napping.

The rest of the time was spent eating a variety of taste meats, drinking beers and bourbon around a campfire, or enjoying early morning coffee and conversations.

The only thing even remotely gun content related is that I got to see Breda Fallacy! She even cooked the best camp meal EVER!

--Going to be a serious Monday...

This is Quiet

I wish more guns had suppressors. This vid shows just how quiet my 10/22 is with its integral suppressor.

--My son farts louder than that rifle.

Range Day

Heading out to the range this morning with a college buddy and my brother. It will be an all fun day. The only work is to sight in my new green LASER.

I will post some pics and provide a range report later.

--We are planning the full monty today: Hand guns, shot guns,  and rifles.
