I love my 300 Blackout. I have found my favorite subsonic ammo. There is one thing I worry about, now that I have had this rig for a while. Feeding it the wrong ammo.
Now to make sure I load the 300BO ammo in only metal mags. It's not that the metal mags function better, look better or feed better.
They look and feel different.
Even in the dark I can tell the difference.
--I love this can. I want them on everything now.

I'm Back
Of course, while I was in California I did no gun related activities. It was very relaxing.
--So enjoy a photo of my AR15 SBR.
AR15 Lower Build Procedure
I encourage everyone to buy a stripped lower and a parts kit to assemble yourself. Putting it together yourself is easy and it helps you understand how the the functions.

My Favorite AR-15
I have a couple AR-15s configured in different ways.
The one in the photo is my current favorite. I decided I needed one that was configured to be as light as possible.
It is simple, accurate, clean, no batteries required and very light. On a single point sling it is very comfy.
Even with the suppressor it is my lightest AR-15.
--Best of all, it is super reliable.

New Shooters
Tonight I am going to the range with a new shooter.
This is a newbie that I have taken to the range on a previous occasion to shoot hand guns.
She loved it.
Now she is back and wants to try a rifle. AR-15s are great choice because the recoil is so light.
I will also take one of my Ruger 10/22s to start with. I am sure will love the AR.
--I am also interest to see how the injured arm functions.

AR-15 Basics
I still get questions about AR-15s from folks that think that they are too complicated. Here is a vid that will give you a quick overview.

Everything You Should Know About AR Buffer Springs
Now that I have several ARs in the safe I am trying to learn more about their care and feeding.

AR-15 at the range

This rig is set up as light as possible. It has a 14 inch pencil barrel, light foregrip, and a light adjustable stock.
The target here is a magazine at 25 yards with basic iron sights.
I love my new range. It is so close I have been more than once in the same day!

Stove Piping
I am having a stove pipe issue with my AR15 SBR.
Here is a few bits of info:
My theory is that the buffer spring is too strong because the barrel is so short and the recoil is so light.
Any other ideas?
--Yes I assembled the thing myself? What are you saying!?
Here is a few bits of info:
- It's new. less than 300 rounds.
- It's clean. Detailed strip and clean.
- It's an SBR. 7 inch. LOUD.
- It was well lubed. Even over-lubed eventually
- Ammo was new and consistent.

AR-15 Build vs Buy
I have done both. The price for my builds are about the same.
--I always seem to upgrade.

WANT: IC-PDW
At the NRA Convention I was looking for light weight AR15 configurations. The next rig I build is planned to be very light weight.
One of my favorites from the show was the LWRC: IC-PDW.
Here are some of the features I really liked:

I Like It!!
The model RLP2110 had a really nice feel. The charging handle was really easy to use.
The picitinny on the butt end gives you lots of creative options for slings.
This is what the Keltec PLR-16 wanted to be.
Retail is $1300, and street price a bit lower.
--Maybe add a K-Bar bayonet!!
Next Project
I am building another AR-15 for my next project. This one will be made to be light and comfortable. I have been talking about it for a while.
I am thinking the upper will be configured like this:
It will have a polymer fore-grip and iron sights only with a single point sling. I might consider a flat-top with advance, but lightweight sights. Nothing with heavy batteries though. Crisp and clean and no caffeine...
--Well maybe a little caffeine.

Good Parenting
I saw this video yesterday over at SayUncle's Blog.
It's very cute. In addition to being cute it illustrates several good things.

- Look at the trigger discipline. It makes me misty.
- This shows how little recoil an AR15 really has.
- Allowing a child to fire a gun in a safe controlled manner teaches them how dangerous it really is and removes the mystique of it.
- It removes irrational fear of firearms.
- It proves how awesome a father you actually have!
Mag Drought is Over
Got this photo as a text on my phone. There was no limit on how many you could buy and there was several cases.
I replied, "How much cash do you have?"
-- He got me 10.

Accessories
I love it when a story begins with, "Well, you see I'm getting married..." Don't me wrong. I love marriage. I get married a lot!
A guy I know from work was thinning out his toys and I bought his 37mm grenade/flare launcher! Just when I thought this rifle could not possibly get any heavier I find yet another attachment to get it closer to boat anchor weight!
This is the 37mm version, not the 40mm version. This one can be used with excellent flares, smoke grenades and a selection of gas grenades. I was talking to a friend that is a Class III dealer and he says that real grenades can be purchased but they are VERY expensive and require the $200 tax stamp for each one.
It also has adapters so it can use 26.5mm rounds as well as 12ga shotgun rounds. They make 12ga flares but don't use 12ga shotgun rounds unless you register the device as a short shotgun AOW with the ATF. I might do that for the hell of it because it's only $5.
--I have flares. Should be fun on July 4th!

Range Day for the AR15 SBR
Went to the range and sited in the EOTech on my AR14 SBR.
It's so much better that I expected from an SBR.
--Next up is a suppressor for it.

Hidden Storage
Here is another example on how to create hidden storage that can also be very handy when you need it. Wandering through a home decor store I saw several pieces of art that would work great for this.

Riot Readiness
I have heard gun grabbers say over and over again, "Why do you need an AR15?"
I am afraid that they may have their question answered.
Contingency "Protests" are already being organized in Florida in case Zimmerman is acquitted. Protests that will likely become riots.
I recommend you have your mags loaded, your pantries full, batteries charged, gas tank full in your car and maybe even get a few spare fire extinguishers.
The defense is expected to rest today. The Jury of six women could potentially come back with a verdict today. It could be a bad weekend in Florida.
I love how the people on Twitter act as if they are forensics and legal experts. They state things as facts. Facts that prove laws were broken that don't exist.
I hope I am completely wrong on this, a worry wart. I hope people stay calm. I hope all the threats and inciting of riots is easy bluster from the safety of peoples keyboards. I hope the threats to burn his house down are only threats. (the prosecution showed his home address on TV)
I think he will be acquitted. I believe if he is found guilty it will only be because he is being thrown under the bus.
