I wish more guns had suppressors. This vid shows just how quiet my 10/22 is with its integral suppressor.
--My son farts louder than that rifle.
Yard Sale Score
My wife loves me.
While she was out "yard sailing" yesterday she scored for me an excellent plinker target for just $1!
I love it when wives clean out the garage and have yard sales while husbands are off playing golf to keep from being put to work.
Perfect for plinking with suppressed .22s!

― Robert A. Heinlein
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms…disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. The Rifle I Never Wanted
I have a bright, shiny, almost new Air Rifle. My brothers wife gave it to me. He died last month. He was 53.
She gave me this Rifle, an old AR-7, and his Honda XR200 dirt bike.
I have decided that I will be keeping this Air Rifle in cherry condition and one day gift it to a grandson or granddaughter of his.
His two daughters have not had any children yet. But when they do I will be part of their lives. I will make sure they know how great their grandfather was.
-Dammit, I miss him.

It had Max Brooks and the Zombie Rifle challenge.
The Winner of the challenge was a suppressed Ruger 10/22 with a custom bullpup stock, dot scope, tac light, laser and even a spike bayonet.
Max Brooks was funny. Can't wait for his movie.

American Indian Museum
I mentioned that I was doing the tourist thing with my friend Tom, my old college buddy.
He brings his family to visit every year for a vacation. We usually hit DC and check out a couple more museums.
This time we went to the American Indian Museum.
Much to my surprise, right in the very first display case we encounter, we find a bunch of UZIs and other modern firearms.
I took this pic with my cell phone. Frankly I am still kinda scratching my head over the whole thing. Make me wonder about all the great stuff still in the museum attic collecting dust so they could display these.
Below is what the inscription says:
--They seem all about them UZIs!!

Recoil Reduction
Last weekend I went skeet shooting with my brother and an old college buddy.
My brother weights about 100 pounds soaking wet and has a tough time getting beat up by my shotguns while skeet shooting.
Last week end he even tried one of my 20ga single shots and it still left him very bruised.
They sell on at Cheaperthandirt for $81.
--Does anyone have one to say if the recoil reduction claims are true?
Lost in the Pippa "Gun Incident"
It was all over the news. A friend of the famous Pippa was photographed pointing a gun at the paparazzi.
Well it turns out the gun was a toy and the photographer knew it.
There were some very important facts left out of the story.
They were leaving a party that had a "Dwarf and Stripper" Party!!
--I really like this girl!

"Banning guns addresses a fundamental right of all Americans to feel safe."

Gun control means being able to hit your target. If I have a 'hot button' issue, this is definitely it. Don't even think about taking my guns. My rights are not negotiable, and I am totally unwilling to compromise when it comes to the Second Amendment."

If we're going to change the laws, let's change them in ways which makes it easier to catch criminals, and yet at the same time protect the Second Amendment rights of our law-abiding citizens.

The Second Amendment is a constitutional right. I didn't make it up, the Republican Party didn't make it up. It's in the Constitution. I think it's just as important as any of the other rights in our constitution.

Range Day
Just wanted to toss out there a quick question.
At the range yesterday there was a woman there in the next lane who was there shooting for the first time with her boyfriend. They were shooting a poket sized .38 hammerless revolver and she was shooting it with her thumb crossing over the top.
Everyone was chatting with her as she was excited about being there, giving her advice on stance and hold.
The range commander, a grumpy old guy, told her to hold it like this. I mentioned to her that it is a good habit to have both thumbs pointing in the same direction along the side. It will serve her well to always do it like that so she isn't injured if she ever picks up a semi-automatic handgun with a slide that will bite her.
The old guy took umbrage to this advice. "I've taught hundreds of people to shoot using this grip!"
I did what I could. Let her learn her own lessons, like I did.
When I first learned to shoot I can remember my Scout master Having me hold it like this to "protect my thumb from the blast out the edges of the cylinder.
--What do you think?

Heading out to the range this morning with a college buddy and my brother. It will be an all fun day. The only work is to sight in my new green LASER.
I will post some pics and provide a range report later.

Media Again
There is only one thing that can over rule media bias these days.
No, it's not the truth.
It's the chance to sell a lot of soap.
I sense the winds are changing on the Zimmerman case. Today ABC released this photo that was taken only three minutes after the attack on Zimmerman.
I wonder how soon it will be before the wolves turn on Trevon?
--Oh wait. It will still be the guns fault. Ask Bill Cosby.

Media Bias
The NRA convention was last week and the media is all over it and not in a good way.
They are going after Ted Nugent, Covering the few protesters and not the 70,000 peaceful attendees.
A perfect example of the media outlet agendas is how NBC is going after Remington with a detailed "news" story that has at it's center a supposed accidental, unattended, discharge of a Remington 870 because it fell over while leaning on a truck.
I have no idea how many Remington 870s are out there. But if there was an issue there would be a long history of it. In stead one case, a guy was stupid and trying to cover it up and NBC runs with it without all the facts.
Go watch the vids for the details. Bad reporting. Classic case of deciding the story then applying facts that fit.
--Not a good way to start the day. Pissed off.

Slow this Bus Down
Had a great time camping this weekend.
I completely avoided being productive in any way this weekend. I really needed that. Tonight I will need to get back on the stick and clean the shop. I still have not cleaned my guns or put anything away from my last range run.
I am having guests this week. A pal from college stopping in for a six day vacation with his family.
There will be a range run with him. Expect pics.
--But for now, it's time to clean.
My Favorite Knife at the Moment
What is it about a good knife?
This is a hand made knife that I bought from a knife maker.
This has so many things that just feel right. It's so sharp I can literally shave with it. The grip and balance in my hand are smooth and natural.
The materials are also visually lovely.
I bought it originally as a working knife but it has remained on my roll top desk as a piece of art.
--I need to try to make a knife.

Romney at the NRA
Sigh.
He disappointed me with his speech.
When talking about my second amendment RIGHTS they do not exist to ensure I can go quail hunting.
They have sod all to do with hunting at all.
I have the fundamental right to defend myself and my family against violence and tyranny.
I have the fundamental RIGHT to bear arms. That means carry a gun with me. Not just in my home.
Read the text closely.

Camping
I am going camping this weekend and as usual will take some firearms.
I will take some quiet ones. a .22 handgun and rifle with suppressors. Plus my Glock.
I might also take my brothers air rifle and plink some cans. I will take pics.

I also like the price! The set was only $40. I got these here at www.cheaperthandirt.com.

Body Armor
I was very surprised to discover that in some jurisdictions, body armor is banned.
This seems just crazy to me but when I consider that it is the same people that want gun control, want armor control.
Because not only do they not want you to be able to return fire, they want their bullets to kill you.
I have some armor, but no concealable body armor. I see on the web a huge range in prices and claims and no clear way to cut through the BS. There seems to be ratings on what it will stop but is there a consumer reports objective assessment of armor? (or is it armour?)
So I am asking you.
--Do you know anything about body armor? Recommendations?

Ammo Order
I have been shooting a ton of .45 since I bought the JR Carbine.
Usually before I hit my low water mark The Nations Gun Show hits and I stock up anther 1000 round case.
This time the timing was off so I ordered a 1000 rounds from Lucky Gunner.

Computer Crash
While on a business trip this week my computer went to the great blue screen in the sky.
I have a fresh backup so I lost no files or data. It's just a huge pain in the ass to tune up a new PC the way I like it.
I love this laptop too. It's all solid state and boots up super fast. It also has illuminated keys for use in the dark.
Blogging from my iPad is possible but I prefer the PC for blogging.
--More gun content soon!
Shop Clearing
Tonight I start to clean up my shop in preparation for renovations.
As part of this renovation I will be getting a new gun safe. The thing is I really want a single large safe. It may not be realistic because of size and access. I am considerating putting the safe I want in there before the new walls go up. But that will mean when I sell the house it will have to convey.
Got a lot of research to do.
--Anyone have recommendations for brands of safes?
