Running late this morning, dammit. This whole job thing really cuts into my blogging.
Been seeing several creative Do It Yourself gunnie projects. These are a pile of creative people.
I love the hidden compartment projects the most but I see other kinds of creative projects.

Ammo Shortage
One of the guys at work is one of the millions of people that ran out and bought an AR15 after Sandy Hook when DiFi started making all the noise about Gun Control. He only has the two 20 round mags that came with it. He is going nuts having never fired it yet.
That was just after Christmas and he still has not been able to find a single 30 round magazine or a box of ammo to buy.
He has been daily attempting to bribe a box of ammo out of me. Today I am taking in two boxes of ammo so he can at least keep his mags loaded in case the Zombie Apocalypse hits.

Handy Storage
Think about this situation:
Your gun safe, like most gun safes, weighs so much that the basement was your only option.
You decide that you want to spread the firepower out, some in the safe, some in the bed room, some in the living room, some in the bathroom.
I like hidden compartment options.
I saw this image initially on Pinterest.com.
It turns out this is not a handy guy at work. This is an item available from TacticalWalls for $375 including shipping! It comes in several finishes. Nice stuff!
They have several options and sizes.
--Plus you can make sure your tie is straight!

Last time I looked that component that is circled is a sling point.
You can see an "Evil Bayonet Lug"!
You can legally buy Grenade Launchers, even the standard 40mm. I want one.
You can get a wide variety of ammo for them. Everything from flares to explosive rounds (avalanche makers), to tear gas, to sandbag thumper less than lethal rounds.
I have also see adapters for Rifle, Handgun and Shotgun rounds. Be careful though if you get one. It makes the device a Short Barrel Shotgun (SBS/AOW).

Gunfight Rules
I was sent this from a friend via email:
In a gunfight, the most important rule is..........HAVE A GUN
Shooting Advice from various Concealed Carry Instructors.
If you own a gun, you will appreciate these rules.
If not, you should get one and learn how to use it and learn the rules :
A; Guns have only two enemies: rust and politicians.
B; It’s always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
C; Cops carry guns to protect themselves, not you.
D; Never let someone or something that threatens you get inside arms length
E; Never say "I've got a gun." If you need to use deadly force, the first sound they hear should be the safety clicking off.
F; The average response time of a 911 call is 23 minutes, the response time of a .357 is 1400 feet per second
G; The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win - there is no such thing as a fair fight. Always win - cheat if necessary.
H; Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets . . . You may get killed with your own gun, but he'll have to beat you to death with it, 'cause it will be empty
I; If you're in a gun fight:
If you're not shooting, you should be loading.
If you're not loading, you should be moving,
If you're not moving, you're dead.
J; In a life and death situation, do something . . . It may be wrong, but do something!
K; If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you have a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?
L; You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or any other word, but a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much a universal language.
M; You cannot save the planet, but you may be able to save yourself and your family.

"I want to remind the US and the world of one thing: evil is about choice. Sickness is about the absence of choice."

"The historical reality of the Second Amendment's protection of the right to keep and bear arms is not that it protects the right to shoot deer. It protects the right to shoot tyrants, and it protects the right to shoot at them effectively, thus, with the same instruments they would use upon us."

History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. 1. "Issue a presidential memorandum to require federal agencies to make
relevant data available to the federal background check system." Remind people to do their jobs.
2. "Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system." Peoples right to privacy is now an "unnecessary legal barrier".
3. "Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system." Bribe them to do their jobs.
4. "Direct the attorney general to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks." This could be a problem. Holder will probably identify gun bloggers as a new category.
5. "Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun." They need to be damn careful with this one. Why was the firearm seized?
6. "Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers." Save money and put it on the damn website.
7. "Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign." Spend an ass-load of cash for a non-problem. Spend the money on a tobacco campaign if you want to save lives.
8. "Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission)." Waste of money. It's what they do instead of something.
9. "Issue a presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations." Leave it to the professionals to decide what they use Federal resources on what cases.
10. "Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement." Remind people to do their jobs.
11. "Nominate an ATF director." Remind yourself to do your job.
12. "Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations." Make sure they don't risk themselves by rushing in.
13. "Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime." Because we don't care that five times as many murders happen with knives.
14. "Issue a presidential memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence." I am sure that will be impartial and not politically influenced.
15. "Direct the attorney general to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies." Because he can send that report to Mexico to follow the 2500 guns he sent.
16. "Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes." It does prohibit doctors from asking if you have guns.
17. "Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities." JB Miller is a libertarian with guns I need to report this! He has an arsenal!
18. "Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers." Wait... The NRA was right?
19. "Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education." Tell people to do their jobs.
20. "Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover." Why did this sneak in here?
21. "Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges." WTF?
22. "Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations." Commit to doing your JOB!
23. "Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health." Talk about all these crazy ass people! Maybe mainstreaming these insane people is not so cool.
This is largely a pile of BS to try to make people think they are doing something. They will continue talking about gun control, getting the media to focus on it, so they don't have to do their jobs. LIKE PASSING A BUDGET!

Ammo Review
The first box is PMC Bronze .357 Magnum, 158 grain JSP.
The second box is PMC Gold Starfire .357 Magnum, 150 grain SFHP.
I used my Ruger SP101.
Both boxes shot flawlessly.
The photo of the target below was taken after the first 12 shots at 20 yards. All 70 shots ended up inside the 8 ring.
I was pleased with the results at 20 yards! |
I really like the PMC Ammo. The price is modest (when you can find it!) It has good quality and reliability. The Hollow Points make good defensive rounds.

"Gun Control! You don't want to protect the world from me. You want to make sure I can't protect the world from you!"

The Constitution shall never be construed … to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms.
– Samuel Adams
A sword never kills anybody; it is a tool in the killer's hand.
– Lucius Annaeus Seneca, c. 4BC - 65AD.
Armed people are free. No state can control those who have the machinery and the will to resist, no mob can take their liberty and property. And no 220-pound thug can threaten the well-being or dignity of a 110-pound woman who has two pounds of iron to even things out … People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically right. Guns ended that, and a social democracy is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work.
– L. Neil Smith (from The Probability Broach)
The police can't stop an intruder, mugger, or stalker from hurting you. They can pursue him only after he has hurt or killed you. Protecting yourself from harm is your responsibility, and you are far less likely to be hurt in a neighborhood of gun owners than in one of disarmed citizens – even if you don't own a gun yourself.

I finally heard back from Senator Warner
When I saw that headline I had a letter in the mail the same day, I also sent him and email and posted on his Facebook Page.
I finally received a response. I bolded sections that bug me. My comments are in italics.
Dear Mr. Miller,
Thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts on the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut and your views on gun control.
On December 14, 2012, 20 innocent children and six adults lost their lives in one of the worst, most tragic shootings to ever occur in the United States. As a parent of three daughters, this was the ultimate nightmare. Like the Virginia Tech and Columbine shootings, this tragedy unfolded in what was once regarded as a safe haven free of crime and violence: a school. (More proof Gun Free Zones do not work)
I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment constitutional right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. I own firearms and I have an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association. (you use to have an A rating) However, I also recognize that, like with many of our constitutional rights, our Second Amendment rights are not without limits. It is unfortunate that a tragedy of this magnitude is what is needed to prompt action, but we need to have a serious discussion on how to best avoid these kinds of mass shootings in the future. The status quo is not acceptable.
I believe our discussion should cover many issues. We can start by improving the existing criminal background check system. Currently, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is woefully incomplete, with many states failing to submit available records on persons who may be disqualified from purchasing or possessing firearms. With a more complete background check system, we can keep firearms out of the hands of those who have been deemed unfit to possess them. (Stop there please.)
In addition, we can take common sense measures (that does not mean what you thinks it means) such as passing the CAMPUS Safety Act (S. 3682), which I introduced last year. That bill would establish a national center for campus public safety within the Department of Justice to serve as a resource center and assist schools and universities in developing campus safety plans and threat assessment tools. (JB Note: This bill was introduced on October 20, 2011, in a previous session of Congress, but was not enacted.) We also need to look at changes to our mental health system so we can provide help to those with dangerous mental illnesses before it is too late. There will not be a single solution, but all of these issues and others need to be part of the conversation and I urge you to continue to express your views as we move forward.
Again, thank you for contacting me. For further information or to sign up for my newsletter please visit my website at http://warner.senate.gov.

Ironic Twist
In a turn of interesting events, there is buried deep inside the 2,800 pages of the Obamacare bill the PROTECTION OF SECOND AMENDMENT GUN RIGHTS Amendment section 10101(e)(2):
(1) WELLNESS AND PREVENTION PROGRAMS.-A wellness and health promotion activity implemented under the subsection may not require the disclosure or collection of any information relating to the presence or storage of a lawfully-possessed firearm or ammunition in the residence or on the property of an individual; or the lawful use, possession, or storage of a firearm or ammunition by an individual.
(2) LIMITATION ON DATA COLLECTION.-None of the authorities provided to the Secretary under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act or an amendment made by that Act shall be construed to authorize or may be used for the collection of any information relating to the lawful ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition; the lawful use of a firearm or ammunition; or the lawful storage of a firearm or ammunition.
(3) LIMITATION ON DATABASES OR DATA BANKS.-None of the authorities provided to the Secretary under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act or an amendment made by that Act shall be construed to authorize or may be used to maintain records of individual ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition.

Walter
My wife likes to call me Walter when I start ranting at the TV.
It has been happening a lot more this week.
The only thing that is going to make me feel better is to go buy another gun.
And you know what?
I am going to buy it using the Gun Show Loophole in Virginia!
"AM I RIGHT!?"
--Shut the Fuck up, Donnie, you're out of your depth!

Reason Enough?
Here is an interesting info-graphic that perfectly shows why women should carry a gun and train often:
--Enough said? Don't be a victim. Don't hide your head in the sand. Do NOT ban the right to protect yourself.

Flare Gun Adapters
Discussions at work wandered around to the fact that you can get adapter inserts for flare guns that allow common center fire rounds.
The problem I instantly mentioned was that a 12 or 20 gauge adapter instantly made an ATF class firearm known as an Any Other Weapon.
Not only that, I would not trust a plastic flare gun, even with an insert, to not put your eye out when the thing broke up from recoil.
I could maybe see a .22lr or maybe even a .38 adapter in a pinch.
--Just say no.

Quotes of the Week
“After losing my job, I felt the only options available to me were
razors, cyanide, or a shot to the face, until Renaldo, being the good
friend that he is, reminded me how to tie a noose.
”
― Jarod Kintz
“A free people ought...to be armed”
― George Washington
“If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.”
― Dalai Lama XIV
“The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles.”
― Jeff Cooper
“Foolish liberals who are trying to read the Second Amendment out of the Constitution by claiming it's not an individual right or that it's too much of a public safety hazard, don't see the danger in the big picture. They're courting disaster by encouraging others to use the same means to eliminate portions of the Constitution they don't like.”
― Alan M. Dershowitz
"Gun control pushers have even less shame than typical rapists. A repulsed rapist doesn’t start whining: “OK, so I can’t rape you now, but how about just dropping your pants? I won’t penetrate you now, but you can’t refuse a reasonable compromise! How about just an inch, no more than two, honest.” Taking away defenses and property of innocent people is a molestation and should be treated as such."

Calling for another look at our gun laws
If that is what they want to do here is my list for starters:
- Elimination of ALL Gun Free Zones
- Nation wide Open and Constitutional Concealed Carry
- Repeal of the 1934 Gun Control act and all others since
- Elimination of TSA and CC allowed on planes
- Revoke ALL import bans
- Begin mandatory firearms training in elementary school
- Continue Firearms education through high school
Getting it Wrong
This
cartoon shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the Second Amendment.
It is not designed to overthrow a tyrant. It is there to prevent the rise of a
tyrant. It has done that very well for 236 years in a row.
Many argue that I can't do anything against the Military or the Police.
Wrong.
Let's say that there are 3 million Law Enforcement and Military personal. About half of them are administrative and support staff. Please note: Most have also sworn oaths to uphold the Constitution.
There are 90 million households with 300 million firearms. 30 times as many people.
Add the fact that more than half of the military and police would refuse to fire on their own people. Plus many would overtly or covertly the work against them. If they passed bans and confiscation. I expect 10% or 20% would comply, the others would not. Let's also say they began to arrest the non-compliant. Jails and police would be instantly overwhelmed. Prisons are already at capacity. Crime would skyrocket because police would not be doing their jobs.
If the shooting started it wouldn't last long because the economy would fall and the politicians are all about the money.
The Second Amendment is a RIGHT that protects us against tyranny. It has worked for 236 years so far.
--Next time someone says the military is so powerful that we have no hope of defending ourselves against them call Bullshit.

Why the AWB was Placebo
Here is a quick example as to why the AWB was silly placebo:
All it would take to make this AR15 compliant is to replace the stock/grip configuration.
And BTW the 30 round mag doesn't even make it cross the line. It required two of the features. This is why the AWB was allowed to be passed. If it was a real ban even southern democrats would have voted against it. The mag limit 10 rounds was silly because there are already over a billion 30 round mags in circulation and available for private purchase legally. They just cost way more.
--Placebo. Doing nothing except making things expensive. Do they just hate poor people.

Happy New Year 2013
2013 could be an interesting year in the Gun World.
Politics: There will be lots of dancing in the blood of children and talk of new restrictions and bans but I predict that if anything gets done it will be more political placebos that, if anything, simply makes things more expensive. I predict concealed carry, shall issue, reform will continue to sweep through the states. My greatest hope is that the Gun Free Zone placebo experiment will quietly fade. I will be writing a lot of letters this year.
Projects: In 2013 I hope to get my SBR paperwork back for my AR15. I also hope to find a great suppressor for that rig. I want to find a great semi-auto shotgun that I can use for skeet and other things. I want better holsters for more carry options. I want to rid myself of crappy scopes and get some quality on the house.
Goals: Take at least 5 more first timers to the range. Take at least one class. Go to the range more with my wife and kids. Spend more time with shooters. They are good people.
--Happy New Year my friends.
