I saw this simple headboard mod for gun storage on the Instructables website.
Most beds are against the wall and would work with this kind of simple DIY setup. I kind of like the tree house carpenter nature of the thing!
The same kind of thing could be integrated onto the back of a dresser or a side table. I am sure the an inexpensive holster could also be fixed there.
--I am thinking of setting up a similar rig to hold a pistol grip shotgun.

DIY Remote Control Gun
Nothing fancy on this project. It's interesting. There is a step by step set of directions here:

Another DYI Gun Safe
Here is another hidden gun safe that would be good for a dusty corner of your garage.
This not only locks, it has really good internal volume.
It could even be plugged in so it could have interior lights, dehumidifier and maybe even some security systems.
I would also remove all the compressor and motor gear and install a drawer in the bottom.
--Good camouflage!

DIY: Gun Safe
A Friend sent me this image of a Do It Yourself locking gun safe.
I have a tall, five drawer filing cabinet that I could see being refit like this.
As I was looking at mine I might have seen a design flaw. If you make these mods and fill it up with long guns, then slide open the drawer, it could tip.
The advantage of the file cabinet normally is that you open only one drawer at a time.
To make this work you would really need to bolt the whole thing to the floor or the wall behind.
I can't say that this would even be good hidden storage. Burglars would still open it. This lock would slow them down but not stop them.
--This would be useful for keeping your kids out.

Hollow Book Storage
I love hidden storage. I post about it pretty often.
A reader sent me a link to ETSY and this hollow book stash.
This is a really good Do It Yourself project as well.
It does not even cost much to do it. I recommend going to a used book store or even Salvation Army and buy a book for the project.
Make the book a boring title that no one will be interested in browsing. If you plan on storing it in a library, find one with a spine that is easy to spot even in low light. Don't use a children's book! This is not a gun safe, it's a gun stash.
I would also recommend once it is cut out to simply paint the interior with wood glue. It will lock the pages together. Maybe even add a small magnet latch.
--For bonus points use a Liberal book on gun control!

Desk Stash
Here is yet another excellent, hidden, gun, stash, compartment!
In the most recent Hidden posts they have been designed to hide full sized AR-15s.
I believe that when you need a rifle it needs to be damn handy.
I consider the handgun I carry is specifically designed to be just enough firepower to get me to my rifle(s).
This picture shows a nice, Do It Yourself secret compartment. The new drawer sliders that are available at any home center makes an install like this simple.
--I would even go with a keyless system.
