Range Weekend

I ended up at the range on both Saturday and Sunday!

Saturday is was the 100 yard indoor ranger at ESS and then on Sunday it was handguns in the 25 yard bay.

We tried out a new PMAG for Glock 9mms. The one we tested ran about 100 rounds, through 2 different Glock 17s.

--It ran flawless. Thumbs up for the initial test.

AimSHOT KT8150

I ran the AimSHOT KT8150 on my suppressed Glock 17. I have to say this is basically the perfect LASER for this handgun configuration. The clearance is perfect for directly under the suppressor.

It came from a great online retailer, Grab A Gun (GrabAGun.com). Check out their new website. Lots of great deals currently!

This is a AimSHOP 8150 compact green LASER.

I love this little guy for several reasons.
  • It's very compact
  • Mounting flexibility
  • Adjustable aim point
  • BRIGHT green LASER
  • USB rechargable
I only had one issue with it. When I ran it on my 300 Blackout it was on target right out of the box. I had to adjust it on the Glock. The problem was the adjustment wasn't UP-DOWN and LEFT-RIGHT.

The adjustment screws are at 4:30pm and 7:30pm instead of 3pm and 6pm.

It was not impossible to adjust the aim point but it did take a bit longer.

The instructions that came with the LASER did not show and way to rotate the device. I have an email in to the manufacturer and when I hear back I will let you know.

--All in all, at $92, this LASER is an excellent value. Go buy one!

Aimshot LASER

I recently obtained a new Green LASER from a great online retailer, Grab A Gun  (GrabAGun.com). Check out their new website. Lots of great deals currently!

This is a AimSHOP 8150 compact green LASER.

I love this little guy for several reasons.
  • It's very compact
  • Mounting flexibility

  • BRIGHT green LASER
  • USB rechargable
The first gun I tried it on was my new 300 Blackout rig. The low profile and light weight was prefect for my new favorite rifle. It is so bright that it's easy for me to see even in daylight. It's flexible mount point system allowed me to attach it where rail space was tight.

Maybe my favorite thing about it is that it's rechargeable. It has a micro USB socket on the other side that you simply plug in and charge it up. No replacing expensive batteries!

I am reluctantly going to take it off the 300 Blackout so I can try it on my suppressed Glock 17. I hand mounted it on that gun briefly to see if it would clear the suppressor and it did, perfectly. I will be posting about that next week. I'll try not to gush like a little girl...

--I suspect I will end up with more that one of these!

Updates to a Fav

My suppressed Ruger Mark III may be my favorite fun gun.

I have recently been updating it. There is basically three notable update:

Hogue 82000 Rubber Grip-Ruger

I love the feel of this grip.

Standard Scope Base Rail Black Ruger MKIII

The Weaver base I had on there would not work with the next item.

Trijicon RMR Dual-Illuminated 12.9 MOA Green Triangle Sight

This scope is so sweet on this gun it is amazing! Perfect focus with both eyes open. Great site picture.

--Now if could find a holster...

Red vs. Green Laser Sights

I read this article over at Lucky Gunner about LASER sights:

Red vs Green

I have both red and green LASERS for various firearms.

For me, it is very subjective because I am color blind and do NOT see red as well as many people.

Green LASERs are the clear winner for me. The Lasermax Unimax, Rail Mount, Green 5mW, 532nm Laser is my favorite. I can see this dot even in daylight.

--I love LASERS but go though a lot of batteries leaving the on.

Glock Tactical Light

I don't know if I have ever blogged about the Glock OEM Tac Light before I should have. I love this light.

"If you are looking for a good light for your Glock, then look no further. This light is tough, and very light. When mounted on a Glock pistol, you can barely feel a difference in weight versus not having a light. This light is produced by Glock and is constructed of the same polymer as their pistol frames."

This is designed for the Glocks. I use it on both my Glock 17 and 21 with equal utility. Now on Amazon Prime for $79.

Click the image and read the Comments! Great stuff.

There are brighter lights but I feel like this is perfect for the job!

--Works great with suppressors in the dark...

FedEx And UPS Refuse to Ship a Digital Mill That Can Make Untraceable Guns

I saw this article on WIRED.COM of all places.

Go read it for yourself, but what I find really interesting is that they are happy to bring me an full upper, a stock, magazines, ammo, scopes and even LASERs without skipping a beat.

This is extra dumb in Virginia because I can purchase lowers all day long legally in private sales and there is no blood in the streets.

That is notable because you have to feed this 80% lowers anyway. They cost the same in VA as complete lowers.

Don't get your panties in a bunch FedEx and UPS because that is what they want to happen. Look at all the free press these guys are getting!

--These are not the droids you thought they were.

PMAGs

I scored some more 40 round PMAGs for a good price.

Availability that was null, not so long ago, is now back to adequate levels.

What do you think will cause the next drought in the market? I am sure there will be one. Will it be the run up to the next election? Will it be caused by the election results? Will it be caused by another shooter going postal? Will it be caused by the Killer Robot Uprising? Maybe even the pending Zombie Apocalypse?

Anyway, the time to fix the roof is when the sun is shining. And it's shining very, very bright in Virginia right now.

--Buy your guns now. Buy Mags, ammo, but leave the .22LR for me!  Please!

GEAR: Levin Sol-Wing 13w Solar Charger

I was camping for two weeks and I had along with me a new Solar Charger for my iPhone and camera.

Levin™ Sol-Wing 13W Ultra-slim Highest Efficiency Solar Panel Portable Solar Charger Compatible with GPS Units, iPhone, iPad, Samsung, LG, Nokia, Motorola, Blackberry, eReaders, Bluetooth Speakers, Gopro Cameras, Mp4, Mp5, Andriod Tablets & All Other 5V USB Devices.

This panel could charge my iPhone to 100% in less than two hours.

It has lots of tie down points so you can tie it to your back-pack or tent ropes! It even works in the rain or when its cloudy.

--It's a great value at $70. Are you ready for adventure?

Drop Holster

What are you looking at?
I have been trying to figure out what the best holster would be if  was wearing my favorite backpack for camping.

My backpack has a great belt the transfers all the weight of the pack to your hips.

Regular Inside or Outside the waistband holsters just get in the way of the packs belt.

The drop holster in this photo seems like it will solve this problem neatly.

--I also have a chest holster that works, but is not that handy.

WANT: Cold Steel Trench-Hawk

I have been thinking about getting a Cold Steel Trench-Hawk to toss in the trunk of my car and forget about it.

I would wrap the handle top to bottom with paracord and then toss it on the bottom of the trunk of my car and forget about it.

The price is only $32 and I would not worry about getting it dirty or scratching it or using it for dirty jobs.

--The price is right!

Head sets

A friendly reader emailed me this image because she knows how much I Love SBRs.

It got me thinking about communications gear including head sets.

I have several FRS radios. Maybe I should get head sets for them.

Any one have personal experience?

--Could be damn handy.

WANT: New Bug Out Bag

William Joseph Exodus Pack

"So maybe you are not leading millions of people to the promised land. However, with this vest combo you would sure look cool doing it. The William Joseph® Exodus is the best way possible to combine the storage and load carrying capabilities of a back pack with the organization possibilities of a vest. And when one or the other is not needed you can play home physicist and split the two with the click of a few buckles. You can now be self contained, organized, and oh so comfortable."

This rig balances the load better. It also gives you easy access to the pouches in the front.

It's also adjustable for good fit.

--At $165 I would have to try one on first though.

Gun Transport and Storage

A regular reader send me this pic via email!

It's Running Board Gun Storage!

I managed to find the sources for him on Guns.com!

My greatest concerns about them would be if the locks were really secure and if they were weather tight.

That and weather they would draw too much attention from burglars and the police!

--I like on-board storage to be more hidden.

Another Hunting Note

I always takes a small camo backpack hunting with me. It holds lots of handy items.

The standard contents include things likes knives, a rain poncho, orange flagging for tracking, bottled water, extra ammo, power bars, and other items.

I discovered two things I did not have this time.

Para cord and rubber gloves.

The gloves I could easily do without. They just make cleanup of your hands easier later.

I really missed my para cord though. I was hunting from a trees stand. A pretty tall one too. I unloaded my shotgun and looked for the cord to tie to my sling and pack so I could haul them up after I get situated. No cord. So I put my unloaded shotgun diagonally across my backpack via the sling and up I went.

I got to the top of the ladder and only had about a square foot to turn around. It was so awkward with the extra bulk. When I turned The barrel clanged hard on the stand. Nice. TBolt heard it 300 yards away.

Finally got seated and secure but it was a huge pain in the ass to struggle out of the pack and sling way up there.

Getting down was quicker. I just dropped the pack to the ground.

--I did get two deer though.

Woot!

There is a very gun friendly website called woot!

It now has a special dedicated section called sportwoot! that often posts a sweet daily deal for shooting sports.

Today is another example of shooters gear. It's a Smith & Wesson Tactical Light for handguns at a great price!

--Check Them Out!

Conceal Carry Options for Women

A friend emailed me a link to a good video that details several holster options for women.

It was the result of a talk we had where I mentioned thigh holsters as a summer sundress option.

--Even if you are a guy, it's a nice holster roundup.

TSA

I am sure the next time I walk through a metal detector this new implant will set it off.

I broke a molar and ended up an oral surgeons office today. He pulled the tooth and drill a huge hole. Then he installed this thing with a pneumatic drill!

This implant was the size of a .45acp!

--Thank the makers for good drugs...
