Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween People!

My kids are grown now and I no longer go out to trick or treat. I kind of miss that. I was always the dad with the best flashlights.

I don't think guns and costumes are a good idea. Maybe if you're a cowboy or an MIB agent, but other than that, not so much.

I have seen several teens and tweens come to my door dressed as terrorists with Airsoft AKs or Uzis. I don't think it's a good idea.

--Be careful out there. Carry a good flashlight. Keep your carry concealed.

MOVIE: The French Connection

"The French Connection is the 1971 crime drama starring Gene Hackman as James "Popeye" Doyle, a relentless NYPD detective who is determined to take down the infamous drug trafficking ring. The film was directed by William Friedkin and was based on the actual cases investigated by Detective Eddie Egan, who co-stars in the film as another character. Hackman received an Academy Award for his portrayal of Doyle and the film is best remembered for its famous car chase with an elevated train."

I love this classic and own it on DVD. I have to drag it out every now and again.

Here are the firearms from the film as seem in the Internet Movie Firearms Database:

WANT: PTS PDR

I saw yet another prototype from Magpul that I really liked.

Maybe I watch too many Scifi TV shows but I really like the bullpub config with the P90 profile that still uses 5.56mm and standard mags. Toss on a suppressor and an EOTech and you are rocking it!

Here is a quick video.

I am really digging the SBRs these days.

--Big Fun!

Buffalo Wild Wings Hates Guns

Buffalo Wild Wings will never get any more of my money.

I will also be writing to the local ones and letting them know that not only will I never go there again but that I will be telling everyone I know to avoid them as well.

They currently have the right to deny me my fundamental right to self defense. But I also have the right to deny them my business.

I hope your Gun Free Zone does not turn out to be a crime magnet. I will never be there in any event.

--Screw em!

Recovering

I really miss going to the range.

It's been over 2 months at this point. This is the longest gap I can remember in recent years.

The main reason is that while my recovery from back surgery is going very well, I cannot stand for anywhere near an hour.

If I go to Clark Brothers, on a weekday, by myself, right when they open, I will be able to shoot my new AR15 while sitting on a bench. I can get some decent shooting in and have it only take 30 minutes.

The short video below is my son shooting the AR15 SBR at Clark Brothers.

--Maybe next week.

Some Good News

We needed some good news from this bunch of screw ups. I guess even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

"The U.S. Senate responded decisively today to Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent signature on the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). In a bipartisan letter led by Senators Jerry Moran (R–KS) and Joe Manchin (D–WV), half of the Senate has officially pledged to oppose the ratification of the ATT. The signatories include every Republican Senator except Mark Kirk (R–IL) and five Democratic Senators. The letter, with its 50 signatories, ends any prospect in the foreseeable future of Senate ratification of the ATT.
The signatories base their opposition to the treaty on six points, including the Administration’s decision to violate its own red line by backing the adoption of the treaty through a majority-rule vote in the U.N. General Assembly. They also note that, because ATT contains “only a weak non-binding reference to the lawful ownership and use of, and trade in firearms, and recognizes none of these activities, much less individual self-defense, as fundamental individual rights,” it could pose a threat to rights protected under the Second Amendment.
The Senate would have to ratify the treaty, which was signed earlier this month by Secretary of State John Kerry, by a 2/3 majority vote, numbers that seem impossible based on today’s actions."

-- And now back to our regularly scheduled Shutdown Theater.

The Walking Dead, Season 3 Premiers

The Walking Dead started back up last night.

I liked it. Here is a list of what I liked:
  • Lots of really good Zombie killin.
  • Literally rained Zombies.
  • Teaching kids to knife fight!
  • Body armor.
  • Glocks and AR15s.
  • Daryl still is a badass.
  • Women are treacherous vipers!!
  • A Katana is a perfect backup weapon.

Got high hopes for this season. Please do no screw this damn season up.

I bet you constantly tell the TV what YOU would do. Here is some of what I would do:
  • Salvage teams have Collectors and Security that work in teams of two.
  • Bite proof body armor. including helments.
  • They need more military vehicles like the Humvees.
  • Need to build a Kill-Truck. A chain link cage on the back. Draw the zombies away from the fence and drop them elsewhere through the cage. You don't want zombies piling up outside the fence.

--Fingers crossed for a good season!

Blunderbuss

MikeW and the Blunderbuss
I unfortunately had to miss the the Flintlock 3-Gun Blogshoot this weekend.

It's really too bad because I have always wanted a Flintlock Blunderbuss.

I have the perfect mantle for a Blunderbuss.

Here is a pic of my friend MikeW about to fire the Blunderbuss.

--I hope this becomes a regular event!

What I have been up to lately

This really isn't a post about guns it's about the shooters health. I have been offline so much of late because I have been recovering from back surgery. To be perfectly honest, going in I didn't think it was going to be this big a deal. But as my friend Breda put it, "I lived."

Lumbar Fusion of L4, L5 and S1
Hopefully this will allow me to take to the field again for some deer hunting before the season is over.

--I still may make TBolt do all the heavy lifting!

Government Shutdown

The Fed shutdown yesterday.

I wonder how many days this will delay my ATF SBR forms for my Suppressed Glock 21 Roni rig?

The last shutdown was during the Clinton administration and lasted 21 days!

The setup pictured on the right is basically the way I plan to configure my Roni carbine once I get the paperwork back! I think my suppressor will probably stick out a few inches farther. I already have the EOTech for this rig waiting in the box in the safe.

This rig will be reliable and quiet. It should be a lot of fun to shoot.

--I have to admit that by the time I am finished configuring it, I will have spent a lot of money on this rig. That will make a good future post.

WANT: Bushmaster ACR

I have to update my want list.

Magpul created an update for the standard AR15 called a Masada.

It takes the best concepts from the long standing AR15 and eliminates the issues that always bugged me.

The most notable design change is that the stock no longer contains the spring tube allowing it to have many more configuration options like folding stocks and pistol grip configurations.

The second major design change is the location of the charging handle. The new location is way easier to work and is nicely ambidextrous.  In fact all the controls are ambidextrous, also including the safety and mag release.

The Bushmaster ACR is the first production version of the Masada.

Toolless dis-assembly is quick and easy. You can even change the barrel fast with no tools.

--Pricey but it's now on my list.
