Ammo Storage Idea Follow-Up

Back in November I posted regarding an Ammo Storage Idea. The idea was simple. Store ammo in used, cleaned, well dried, bottles. It beat the milk cartons the ammo came in. As a test I took one of the bottles and stored it under water for two months!!   I took that set of ammo with me to the range this weekend.

The inside of the bottle and all the ammo was bone dry. I shot about 300 rounds from the bottle without any issues. I still think that I am going to order some desiccant packets to add to the bottom of each bottle.

--I think my next test will be to bury one in the yard.

I'll have to try that. Isn't the plastic used in the bottles bio-degradable? I think that it used to not be biodegradable until the mid 70's and then the envirowackos goaded the mfrs into making the stuff degrade over time.
But please try this and post your results.

My next test is going to be to bury one outside. I am thinking I will bury 4 bottles. Pull one up in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and 2 years.

I understand that only the sun will degrade food grade plastics.

Greetings from Texas,
Interesting idea! I remember reading about the japanese soldiers who hid out after the war because they had never recieved the order to surrender. One of them said he stored ammunation in jars. It lasted for years like that.

a cheaper and easier solution to those desiccant packages is kitty litter! the "crystal" kind. its the same stuff (silica gel) as those desiccant packages.
