I was going to make a quick run to the NRA HQ Range, to sight in a new scope on my rifle, Squirrels Bane.
I knew I was in trouble based on how full the lot was. When I got inside it was packed. When I got to the waiting list to add my name I asked the woman behind the counter how long the wait was going to be. (15 mins is the longest I had ever waited).
She said it was a 2 hour wait. Wow.
I thought about waiting as I wandered though the waiting area. No seats on the nice leather sofas. No spaces on the benches. Even the class room was almost full. I bagged it. They open on Sunday at 8:30am.
It was 50/50 men and women. Higher ratio than usual. I shouldn't be surprised. It's Virginia.

I really ought to go there sometime, but I'm a member at Blue Ridge Arsenal which is just minutes away from my office... makes shooting during the lunch hour very, very easy.
But NRA HQ is tempting. Maybe one day there ought to be an organized NoVA blogger meet-up or something there. Get there early on a Sunday to shoot, then take sometime in the museum, then find some place around there to eat.
Andy,
Love the idea. I'm in. Let's pick a day! Sunday at 8:30am would be great. Museum and lunch would be perfect.
I'll try to scout out some places to eat. I also need to verify the opening time of the museum. How does Feb. 20 sound?
You shoulda said something. I woulda gone with.
I got there at 8:37am. Got a lane at 10:30am. So when we go get there early so we are in the first group of 15.
I wondered where you were T-Bolt! The wife figured a woman was involved...
Feb 20 sounds Great. There is a Brazilian Meat-O-Rama not far from NRA HQ in Fairlakes.
JB,
I stopped by the NRA range today to get an ID card so I wouldn't have to do that on Feb. 20 (I've never actually used their range). I also checked that the museum will be open. It opens at 9:30, so if we hit the range first then hit the museum we should be fine.
As for lunch, I'm not familiar with the eats in that area but there seem to be a lot of choices. Seoul House looks interesting ( I haven't had Korean BBQ in awhile ). Choices, choices, choices....
I guess my next choice is what firearm to bring. I'm thinking my FN 57 and my AR-15. Yeah, the AR is nothing exotic but I need to zero the BUIS on it.
Interested in shooting any new type of gun? I have several I could bring.
If you have any of the following: Judge, SR9c, anything Cowboy action-ish especially a lever-action rifle in a pistol calibre, anything PDW-ish, and anything Class III.
