I met my new neighbors!

The house on the left was sold a few weeks ago and the new owners started moving in!

I went up and introduced myself to Donna who was proudly, safely, open carrying.

I really enjoyed the "No Big Thing" feel of the entire encounter. I met her four kids and her husband.

While we were talking several other neighbors came over to say hello as well.

It was a classic American scene.

I love Virginia.

--Odd thing is, I didn't notice any blood in the streets at all.

Quotes of the Week.

The present breakdown of America is not the failure of Capitalism, but the result of men abandoning the principles of Capitalism....
--Ayn Rand Bot

WANT: Ruger 10/22 Charger SBR

A Ruger 10/22 Charger is on my Want List. It's haunting me.

I would eventually register it as an SBR because I can!

There are not a lot of options for SBR Chargers right now unless you do it yourself.

This is an example of a custom drop in setup that a friend sent me.

I keep coming back to it.

I could thread the barrel, get a suppressor and add an EOTech.

--Now if only I could find .22LR.

RIP: Eli Wallach

Eli Wallach, who was one of his generation’s most prominent and prolific character actors in film, onstage and on television for more than 60 years, died on Tuesday. He was 98.

Wallach was still acting even in 2010.

One of my favorite movies is The Good, the bad, and the Ugly.

In that movie Eli taught me to always make sure that your gun is loaded if you are about to get in a gun fight.

--It also taught me, "There are two kinds of people in this world. People with guns and people who dig..."

New Rack

My wife bought me a present!

It is a really nice Rams Head with an attached gun rack.

The eyes follow you.He has a disapproving look on his face.

I have to find the right place for it. Current thinking is to use it to store our un-strung long bows.

--Yet another taxidermy story that begins, "Well... I'm getting married..."

Gun Show

Wend to the Manassas Gun Show yesterday with my new neighbor and fellow blogger, JayG!

This isn't the biggest gun show but it had enough to be interesting.

I inadvertently snuck into the wrong line and got a Dealer hand stamp initially. Amusing.

Finally found the right line and paid the admission!

Ammo could be had even .22LR but prices are still high.

The did have a cannon dealer! Prices ranged from $650 to $2800. No special permits required in VA, for cannons or mortars. they don't even call in a background check because it is a muzzle loader. Plenty of cannon fuse available too!

--I wonder what the wife would say...

No Guns For You

Billy Johnson boils it down nicely in this video:

--Shall not be infringed...

WANT: Klax

I saw this in my random wanderings on the webs. Looks pretty damn handy for $115.
"Your standard woodsman's axe is already a great survival tool — capable of plenty more than just getting wood ready for a fire — but the Klax line of axes take it just another step further. Available in several models, each with a range of built-in tools, these axe heads sport a hammer head, an axe blade, hex wrenches, a bit drive socket, a ruler, and much more. And with their proprietary clamping system, they're a breeze to take on and off of any handle, letting you stow them away when you're on the move. Thanks to their stainless steel construction, you know they'll last for years without breaking or tarnishing, so you won't be left up a creek when you really need them."
--And it's got a bottle opener...

In Other News:

It looks like 60 contractors were kidnapped yesterday in Iraq by Terrorists. Do you know why? The media is not covering this. Wonder why?  Lead story on the news this am is increase in meat prices.

These are not the droids you're looking for...

Interesting

A friend emailed me this picture of a Key Gun.

He found it on pinterest.com and I cannot seem to find it anywhere else to get the rest of the history.

In other news: 20 years ago today I was playing darts in a bar with my friend Joe when the TV was live broadcasting the OJ Simpson White Bronco slow speed chase comedy occurred.

The whole bar was watching.

--Much simpler times then...

Range Trip

Finally got all the parts I wanted for the new Remington 700 .308 and made it to the range yesterday.

I had a couple false starts with the scope rings but finally got it together.

100 Yards
It only took about 15 rounds to dial it in at 100 yards. I only put 20 rounds through it. This target is the last magazine I put though it. The next time I go I will fine tune it to 2 inches high at 100. Then I need to get to a long range.

It wasn't all good. The bolt action needs to be smoothed out. The trigger needs is a bit stiff as well. I have enjoyed some triggers that are like butter. This trigger is good. But I want butter!

--I love the Leupold VX6 Scope. LOVE IT!

Computer AI passes Turing test in 'world first'

In the next step toward the Killer Robot Uprising and AI passed the Turing Test!

From Wikipedia: "The Turing test is a test of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behaviour equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human. In the original illustrative example, a human judge engages in natural language conversations with a human and a machine designed to generate performance indistinguishable from that of a human being. All participants are separated from one another. If the judge cannot reliably tell the machine from the human, the machine is said to have passed the test. The test does not check the ability to give the correct answer to questions; it checks how closely the answer resembles typical human answers. The conversation is limited to a text-only channel such as a computer keyboard and screen so that the result is not dependent on the machine's ability to render words into audio.[2]"

--Just remember that the best round for Killer Robots is .308.

The Grey Man Vignettes

Yesterday, I just finished reading The Grey Man Vignettes by J.L. Curtis.

I had this book at work. I would read it during breaks and lunch. It is more than just a book about guns. I like the plot, settings, characters and the guns!

Great stuff. Go Buy It! Now!

--Great job NFO!

Graduation

My son had his graduation last night.

He did really great. Has a 3.85 GPA and graduated Magna Cun Laude.

I am very proud of the boy.

I always had a rule with him: As long as your grades are good you can wear what ever clothes you want and have any haircut you want.

It worked.

I don't usually go to Gun Free Zones. Last night I made an exception.

--It was worth it.

Navigating the Rules

This is nice chart that details the specific rules in play as you begin to configure a pistol to SBR.

Guns.com posted the infographic below which makes it easy to understand the difference and hopefully demonstrates the way they are interpreting the law is silly.

--So keep in mind. No drop grips on pistols. The most common mistake.

Life Intrudes

Driving my wonderful wife to the hospital, in a few minutes, for surgery to get her Gall Bladder out.

Sometimes I hate the Internet.

I made the mistake of doing a bit of research regarding the problem and procedure. Sometimes you just can't unsee all the things.

Just don't do it. Especially the helpful, informative and detailed Youtube videos.

--BTW, the hospital is a Gun Free Zone. Sigh...

My Opinion So Far Bowe Bergdahl

Bowe Bergdahl is another huge screw up by this administration.

We traded 5 terrorists for this guy?

Someone forgot to mention to President Obama that we do not negotiate with terrorists. Or that we are suppose to discuss it with congress before we release asshats from Gitmo.

That is such a bargain for Al Qaeda. It will encourage them to start kidnapping more people. And imagine if they snag someone that actually was worth something.

Someone also forgot to tell the President that when we say "No soldier left behind." means we go in with a swarm of attack ships, massive troops, millions of bullets and tons of bombs.

We make kidnapping so expensive for them, so not worth it, they never do it again.

Six men were killed searching for Bergdahl. The President chose to honor them by freeing terrorists in stead of making them pay.

--Can't blame this screw-up on Bush.

Free Icecream is Running Low

I am super busy week for me this week. The wife is sick. No time for reading my usual blogs and web sites. No time for doing decent posts.

--Maybe tonight.

Ruger 10/22 SBR

This looks like a custom stock made for a Ruger 10/22 Charger.

Great for the Pending Zombie Apocalypse!

Light, easy to shoot, and it has a fun MP5 look and feel!

--I need to put this on my want list!
