2013 Year in Review

It has been a roller coaster year. Here is a random series of stuff from 2013.

It started off , in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting with the most discusting blood dancing I have seen in my life. Gun control full court press after Sandy Hook shootings was an failure. A few specific States passed knee jerk laws and President Obama signed 23 EOs. All doing nothing to reduce crime. NYC even started confiscating firearms proving registration is a stepping stone to confiscation.

FBI official report shows that in 2011 only 323 people were murdered with rifles of ALL kinds.

The entire circus proved the Media to be ignorant as well as corrupt. I wrote more letters and emails to my reps this year than any other year.

This entire fiasco triggered panic buying causing ammo and guns to disappear from the stores. I have never seen gun stores so empty. Ammo shortages continue with .22LR being the biggest surprise.

Do you remember Christopher Dorner?  Former cop and vocal liberal supporter of gun control that went on a rampage in California killing police and their families.  Hunted down and burned alive and then the ashes swept under the rug.

During this year I switched from my 1911 to the Px4, to the Glock 17, for my daily carry.

I registered 2 SBRs during this year. One is an AR15 and one is a Glock 21 Roni.

I got a new gun safe.

Joe "Shotgun" Biden gives advice about shooting through doors and into the air. He has been on a short leash ever since then.

Boston Marathon bombing happened and suspension of rights with massive military style, warrant-less, .search and seizures to find a single kid.

I made it to a couple Blogmeets and shoots this year. Good people.
There was much debating about guns on Facebook this year. When I was asked, "What are you so afraid of that you need to carry a gun?" I would reply,  "I am not at all afraid. A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because its trust is not in the branch but on its own wings."

There was silly panic regarding 3D printed guns.

George Zimmerman was found not guilty. We saw that bigotry is alive and well and is strong in some black people.

I bought a new truck!  I baked my first pie.

I got the Roni, 2 more lowers, the AR15 SBR and the .300 Blackout SBR. My most frivolous buy was a 37mm grenade/flare launcher.

Obamacare happened.

Terry McAuliffe won the Governor’s race in VA, dammit.

I purchased a Trijicon RMR. I may love it more than my EOTech’s.

JayG moved to VA!

--The thing that dominated much of my year was a back injury and surgery to repair it. I am looking forward to 2014!

Brown Truck of Happiness

I went to the Nations Gun Show this weekend.

On top of my list was a light weight holographic sight for my Suppressed  Roni SBR Rig.

There was tons of cheap Chinese devices everywhere. I had seen a EOTech's that were the leading contender.

I like to price check on my smart phone as I shop. Old NFO was there as well and recommended I look for a Trijicon RMR. I had seen some there for about $520 and when I looked on Amazon it was only $381 with free shipping!

--I felt naughty one clicking it while at the gun show!

Nation's Gun Show!

The Nation's Gun Show starts tomorrow! Time to go get all the things that Santa forgot! I will be on the hunt for bulk ammo at normal prices! .22LR mostly!

Both of my favorite local gun shops will be having tables there and the walls will be nearly empty in their local shops. But they do sell some guns!

I am kinda hoping that the crowds are all over the river and through the woods at Grandma's! It has been so crowded there recently.

-Who's Going!?

Merry Christmas!

Happy Birthday, Jesus.

Let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with me.

I will do what I can to protect the ones I love all those that are near me, all the days of the year.

Merry Christmas to all my friends and family. Near and far.

My $.02 on Phil Robertson

Let me start of with a little YELLING!

YOU DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO
BEING UN-OFFENDED!!

You do have the right to turn off the TV, or watch something else.

Other than that, you are just whining. So I guess I will have a turn at it.

You know what OFFENDS ME?
  • The Kardashians
  • The Jersey Shore
  • Honey Boo Boo
  • The Bachelor
The list is sooo much longer, but I thought I'd just list a few with the focus being on family. These shows have caused me to lose faith in humanity. They are soul crushing pieces of shit that glorify bad behavior and influence your children. They seek to amuse that rubberneck piece of your brain the can't look away from a car wreck. That shit OFFENDS me to the core.

So what.

I was actually starting to hope that the massive ratings of Duck Dynasty was going to cause the pendulum to swing back to depict families that love each other, families that are successful by working together and winning in the free markets. What!? Capitalism is good, working and playing hard is good!? People that respect their parents and love their children. And don't forget the, Oh NO, positive depiction of  Christians, firearms and hunting. Is this why they are going after the show so hard? I believe that the people bitching the loudest don't even watch the show.

Even the fact that a family has an elder with opinions like Phil is positive. We need to be able to still love and respect people with whom we disagree. This country has completely forgot that. Every family has that member. Is anyone surprised by any of this? Think of his generation.

Oh and by the way, I happen to disagree with Phil on homosexuals. A persons sexual preference does not matter to me, unless I want to have sex with them! I'm straight, I'm not narrow. I believe in the rights of the individual. It's no ones else's damn business.

--So if you don't like it. Don't watch the show. Grow the fuck up.

Holiday Stress Relief

Next year I will do this!!
Work has been crazy for me in the last couple weeks. Combine this with shopping insanity and Christmas preps. I am sick of politics, the bias media, and stupid people on Facebook.

I also wanted to get my novels complete first draft done by years end. That focus makes blogging an afterthought.

All this just means this weekend I am going to say to hell with it and go to the range with my son.

--It's going to be 65F on Saturday!

Be Prepared?

I have been seeing this TV commercial every day for the last couple weeks:

What does it say about the state of the country?

--What does it say about me? Because I want one!

Guns on Sherlock

Sherlock and his gun as usual
I have just finished binge watching the BBC TV series Sherlock.

It really struck me how the show depicts the casual use and possession of firearms by civilians in the UK. It also shows Sherlock casually firing a handgun at a smile face he drew on the wall  because he is bored.

The villains are armed all the time. The super villains have teams of snipers with suppressed high power rifles all over London.

So many problems are solved by firearms. Doctor Watson even kills a guy and walks away, never admitting it.

I love that show.

--The BBC really seems to Love guns.

Christmas Guns

We are having an open house today. We do it every Christmas season. My wife loves Christmas. It's her favorite time of year. Me too, but not like her!

This year we have 9, yes I said 9, beautiful Christmas Trees!

Every year she gets me new ornaments that have guns in them.

We will have a whole tree one day that is all gun related ornaments! Next to the vintage camper ornament theme tree...

--Merry Christmas Season!

WANT: TNW 9mm Carbine

Happy Friday the 13th!!

I am lovin pistol caliber carbines these days. I got the JR Carbine which is still suffering from constant jamming, still. I have the Roni conversion kit that is sooo sweet. And this weekend I got to handle a TNW Carbine. The one I was looking at was 9mm and took Glock magazines. I have a ton of mags for my Glock 17 already, including three 33 round Glock factory mags!

TNW Carbine

--The street price I saw at Clark Brothers was $699. Might have to get one!

Sales are up

I went to the range at Clark Brothers last weekend with TBolt to air out my freshly built .300 Blackout SBR. Here are a few observations:

.300 Blackout SBR
  • My gas block is correctly aligned!
  • They had ammo (2 box limit)
  • I needed more lube, lots more
  • It took 20 rounds to get the new scope on the paper
  • No crowd at the range
  • Packed in the store, lines of people buying guns
  • No .22LR at all
I took along my suppressed 10/22 to check on the scope to make sure it was good in case any evil squirrels needed killin. It is on. Love that thing.

There was a guy in the next lane over that bought a new 10/22  that was sighting it in. They gave him one box of ammo. He was having a great time so I gave him a hundred rounds of mine in a random act of kindness.

--It was a good day all around.

NYC is Confiscating Firearms

How much more proof does the world need to prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that firearm registrations ultimate goal is confiscation.

--The only reason they can find them is because the owners are law abiding.

Good Parenting

I saw this video yesterday over at SayUncle's Blog.

It's very cute. In addition to being cute it illustrates several good things.
  • Look at the trigger discipline. It makes me misty.
  • This shows how little recoil an AR15 really has.
  • Allowing a child to fire a gun in a safe controlled manner teaches them how dangerous it really is and removes the mystique of it.
  • It removes irrational fear of firearms.
  • It proves how awesome a father you actually have!

SBR Paper Work Has Arrived

The SBR paperwork finally came in for my Glock 21 Roni project!

It will be a super fun rig but in the end will be pretty damn expensive. Here is the list with basic costs:
    • $550 - Glock 21 .45ACP
    • $115 - Factory Threaded Barrel
    • $400 - RONI Carbine Kit
    • $1050 - AAC Suppressor
    • $50 - Magpul sights
    • $90 - Tactical Light
    • $100  - Three 27 Round Mags
    • $35 - Single Point Sling
    • $200 - Class III Tax for Suppressor
    • $200 - Class III Tax for Short Barrel Rifle
    Total: $ 2790

This results in a really compact, light, reliable, powerful and quiet, carbine. Great for the pending Zombie Apocalypse! But is it worth all the money?

--I will probably add a compact EOTech adding another $400.

    Mag Drought is Over

Got this photo as a text on my phone. There was no limit on how many you could buy and there was several cases.

I replied, "How much cash do you have?"

    -- He got me 10.

    Couch Safe!

A friend sent me this pic of a hidden storage option in a couch.

This is a really good option for homes that have a lot of room or people that have a lot of guns and need more and more places to stash them.

This one even has bulletproof inserts in the cushions.

Read all about it and see the video on GIZMODO!

--Let the wife pick the fabric! $7000!

    Speaking of Christmas

One of the reasons my wife does not have an issue with my gun collecting is that she is a big collector herself.

She has various collections: Vintage Barbies, PEZ Dispensers, Classic Book Series like Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys and Christmas Ornaments.

She has so many ornaments we now have eight Christmas trees. Eight trees with a very high density of ornaments per square inch.

Some have themes as well. The kitchen tree has a food and cooking theme, we have an all vintage ornaments tree, we even have one that has campers and guns as a theme.

--Well that one has a singing pickle as well. TBolt bought it for her!

    Christmas Lists

I am starting to plan my gun room starting with what I need on a tool bench. Adding stuff to my Amazon wishlist.

I love putting together ARs and to make that easier a nice vise would be great. Amazon Prime even includes FREE delivery!

I mean a real bench vise. I have a smaller vise that you clamp down to a bench edge but it just doesn't cut it. I have a good tool box with lots of room, drawers and tools.

What else should a dedicated tool bench have?
    • Good lighting
    • Vise blocks for magwells
    • Vise clamps for lowers and uppers
    • One of those lamps with a magnifying glass

--After I get the tool bench set up I will start on a reloading bench!

    Gun Porn

Do you know the story behind this?
A friend sent me this pic over the weekend as an unusual item.

Combination 1911 and brass knuckles, er um, steel knuckles.

Creative design and probably quite collectable.

The perfect find in your grandfathers attic, wrapped in a oiled cloth.

--Now that is a knuckle sammich!

    Echoed from Robb Allen

    Robb Allen @ItsRobbAllen

#GunControl is the belief that declawing the cat will protect it against other animals.

Let’s say you have a cat that likes to go outside and enjoy the weather. You notice that your cat is getting in fights with the wild cats roaming your ‘hood, so you do your part to reduce feline violence by realizing that if all cats were declawed, this wouldn’t be a problem.

So you declaw your cat. You can’t declaw the ones roaming the neighborhood because they’re wild, and thus not constrained to the rules you’ve laid out. Instead, you simply control the one thing you can, and that is your cat. Your cat is now at a disadvantage since the other cats aren’t going to declaw themselves nor are they going to see that your kitty is defenseless and thus will keep their weapons sheathed during a conflict.

This is how gun control works.

If the goal is to remove guns from the streets, it doesn’t because criminals aren’t going to turn theirs in, and there are already too many of them out there to get rid of (the other cats will keep their claws). If the goal is to punish criminals for having guns, that doesn’t stop them either since they’re already assuming the risk that plying their trade entails. The feral cats aren’t going to be dissuaded from fighting just because you tell them you’ll punish them more for having claws.

All in all, that’s a pretty damned good turn of phrase that holds up pretty well for an analogy (all analogies eventually fail because an apple isn’t an orange).

    --I will use this analogy.

--Thanks, Emily for all your work. You look great too!

    Holiday Travel Cautions

Lots of people I know are starting to travel today! If you are planning on heading over the river and through the woods for Thanksgiving here are a few pieces of advice:
    • Keep an eye on the weather forecast. It might suck where you are.
    • If you plan on carrying a gun in another state, please check for rule changes in that jurisdiction. A lot of rules have changed since this time last year.
    • Secure your firearms carefully as you travel through trap states.
    • If you are hunting, good luck! Too many damn deer out there.
    • Speaking of deer, careful driving! Too many damn deer out there.
    • Eat pie. Lots of pie.
    --Have a great week!

    Another Not Quite Full Auto

    New Project Gun

I bought a Mossberg Model 152 from a friend. The action is locked up, the original scope is so dorked it doesn't even have cross hairs any longer, he said it would sometimes mag dup on him and it only has one 8 round mag. But it has a cool drop down hand thing stock!

    Mossberg Model 152

--It should be fun to get this thing shooting again.

Want: Iver Johnson M1 Carbine Pistol

Once again with the short firearms! What's up with that?

This beauty is an Iver Johnson M1 Carbine Pistol in .30 cal. I think it is real pretty and would be a lot of fun to shoot. It is classified as a pistol so there is no need to pay for the SBR tax stamp.

    Iver Johnson M1 Carbine Pistol

--The biggest problem is finding one!

    Accessories

I love it when a story begins with, "Well, you see I'm getting married..."  Don't me wrong. I love marriage. I get married a lot!

A guy I know from work was thinning out his toys and I bought his 37mm grenade/flare launcher! Just when I thought this rifle could not possibly get any heavier I find yet another attachment to get it closer to boat anchor weight!

This is the 37mm version, not the 40mm version. This one can be used with excellent flares, smoke grenades and a selection of gas grenades. I was talking to a friend that is a Class III dealer and he says that real grenades can be purchased but they are VERY expensive and require the $200 tax stamp for each one.

It also has adapters so it can use 26.5mm rounds as well as 12ga shotgun rounds. They make 12ga flares but don't use 12ga shotgun rounds unless you register the device as a short shotgun AOW with the ATF. I might do that for the hell of it because it's only $5.

--I have flares.  Should be fun on July 4th!

    This is My Shocked Face

This stat is flying all around the web this week.

Another number I heard on the news this morning is that almost 7 million people have lost their health care because of Obamacare. All while less than 50,000 have signed up.

The news also said villains have already discovered how to game the system for cash with the help of corrupt Obamacare navigators.

I have never seen corruption and incompetence met with so much apathy.

    -- Apathy Kills... who cares...

More Evidance That Gun Control Doesn't Work

17 Years After Gun Bans in Australia …Police Say Gun Crime is Out of Control

"In 1996 Australia-unloaded some of the most severe gun bans and gun confiscation programs on record.  And for the guns that were not confiscated gun owners were forced to enter into license agreements and have their guns registered so the government knew what guns everyone had. Well, they really only knew what guns the law abiding had, since none of the criminals actually followed the program.  Fancy that. "

"Breitbart just reported some interesting developments in Australia that prove all the anti-gun lawmakers wrong.  Gun control does NOT take guns out of the hands of criminals, it only disarms the law abiding, while making everyone less safe."So it looks like the only ones left with all the guns are the criminals.  And the gun policies that Australia has enforced are the exact ones that gun control pushers like Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Senator Dianne Feinstein want to see here in the U.S. Of course they will ignore the real facts behind the issue and overlook the fact that when guns are banned only the police and the criminals will have guns, leaving citizens to fend for themselves when lawlessness like we have seen in Australia starts to rise up. In the last 12 months alone, over 3,300 people were charged with gun crimes, and over 9,000 guns have been confiscated. The lesson?  Gun control only affects the law abiding gun owners.  Criminals are empowered by it. "

--It's not about guns, it's about control.

    Election Results

Terry McAuliffe won the Governors race. He squeaked out a victory by a small 2% margin under a cloud of election shenanigans involving the financing of the Libertarian candidate who took 7% of the vote from the Republicans.

This is not good for gun rights in the Commonwealth. A massive amount of his campaign cash came from Bloomberg.

McAuliffe is in love with the idea of smart guns.

--He also went Turkey hunting once and bagged a buzzard. There is a metaphor in there somewhere.

My kids are grown now and I no longer go out to trick or treat. I kind of miss that. I was always the dad with the best flashlights.

I don't think guns and costumes are a good idea. Maybe if you're a cowboy or an MIB agent, but other than that, not so much.

I have seen several teens and tweens come to my door dressed as terrorists with Airsoft AKs or Uzis. I don't think it's a good idea.

--Be careful out there. Carry a good flashlight. Keep your carry concealed.

    MOVIE: The French Connection

"The French Connection is the 1971 crime drama starring Gene Hackman as James "Popeye" Doyle, a relentless NYPD detective who is determined to take down the infamous drug trafficking ring. The film was directed by William Friedkin and was based on the actual cases investigated by Detective Eddie Egan, who co-stars in the film as another character. Hackman received an Academy Award for his portrayal of Doyle and the film is best remembered for its famous car chase with an elevated train."

Maybe I watch too many Scifi TV shows but I really like the bullpub config with the P90 profile that still uses 5.56mm and standard mags. Toss on a suppressor and an EOTech and you are rocking it!

    Here is a quick video.

I am really digging the SBRs these days.

    --Big Fun!

    Buffalo Wild Wings Hates Guns

Buffalo Wild Wings will never get any more of my money.

I will also be writing to the local ones and letting them know that not only will I never go there again but that I will be telling everyone I know to avoid them as well.

They currently have the right to deny me my fundamental right to self defense. But I also have the right to deny them my business.

I hope your Gun Free Zone does not turn out to be a crime magnet. I will never be there in any event.

    --Screw em!

    Recovering

I really miss going to the range.

It's been over 2 months at this point. This is the longest gap I can remember in recent years.

The main reason is that while my recovery from back surgery is going very well, I cannot stand for anywhere near an hour.

If I go to Clark Brothers, on a weekday, by myself, right when they open, I will be able to shoot my new AR15 while sitting on a bench. I can get some decent shooting in and have it only take 30 minutes.

The short video below is my son shooting the AR15 SBR at Clark Brothers.

    --Maybe next week.

    Some Good News

We needed some good news from this bunch of screw ups. I guess even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

"The U.S. Senate responded decisively today to Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent signature on the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). In a bipartisan letter led by Senators Jerry Moran (R–KS) and Joe Manchin (D–WV), half of the Senate has officially pledged to oppose the ratification of the ATT. The signatories include every Republican Senator except Mark Kirk (R–IL) and five Democratic Senators. The letter, with its 50 signatories, ends any prospect in the foreseeable future of Senate ratification of the ATT.
The signatories base their opposition to the treaty on six points, including the Administration’s decision to violate its own red line by backing the adoption of the treaty through a majority-rule vote in the U.N. General Assembly. They also note that, because ATT contains “only a weak non-binding reference to the lawful ownership and use of, and trade in firearms, and recognizes none of these activities, much less individual self-defense, as fundamental individual rights,” it could pose a threat to rights protected under the Second Amendment.
The Senate would have to ratify the treaty, which was signed earlier this month by Secretary of State John Kerry, by a 2/3 majority vote, numbers that seem impossible based on today’s actions."

-- And now back to our regularly scheduled Shutdown Theater.

The Walking Dead, Season 3 Premiers

The Walking Dead started back up last night.

I liked it. Here is a list of what I liked:
    • Lots of really good Zombie killin.
    • Literally rained Zombies.
    • Teaching kids to knife fight!
    • Body armor.
    • Glocks and AR15s.
    • Daryl still is a badass.
    • Women are treacherous vipers!!
    • A Katana is a perfect backup weapon.

Got high hopes for this season. Please do no screw this damn season up.

I bet you constantly tell the TV what YOU would do. Here is some of what I would do:
    • Salvage teams have Collectors and Security that work in teams of two.
    • Bite proof body armor. including helments.
    • They need more military vehicles like the Humvees.
    • Need to build a Kill-Truck. A chain link cage on the back. Draw the zombies away from the fence and drop them elsewhere through the cage. You don't want zombies piling up outside the fence.

--Fingers crossed for a good season!
