Meet the Vulture

So Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is taking autonomous robots to the next level.

The Vulture is an Unmanned Ariel Vehicle that can go up and stay up for five years without refueling or landing. How long before it is a persistent weapons platform!!??

"Vulture technology enables a re-taskable, persistent pseudo-satellite capability, in an aircraft package. The technology combines the key benefits of an aircraft (flexibility & responsiveness, sensor resolution, reduced transmit/receive power, affordability) with the benefits of space assets (on-station persistence, no logistics tail, energy independence, fleet size, absence of in-country footprint)."

Even if that's flying in the upper edges of atmosphere it's going to, by necessity, be moving slow. VERY slow. While a shoot-down might not be EASY, it's certainly nowhere near the complexity of an ASAT or guided SAM ... an unguided rocket and a bit of physics/trigonometry will get you there, or at least in the area.

Just imagine those things, slowly gliding over your State, looking for any sign of Rebellion against the Party....
