Ammo Shortage

One of the guys at work is one of the millions of people that ran out and bought an AR15 after Sandy Hook when DiFi started making all the noise about Gun Control. He only has the two 20 round mags that came with it. He is going nuts having never fired it yet.

That was just after Christmas and he still has not been able to find a single 30 round magazine or a box of ammo to buy.

He has been daily attempting to bribe a box of ammo out of me.  Today I am taking in two boxes of ammo so he can at least keep his mags loaded in case the Zombie Apocalypse hits.

--I will bet money that he hops up and down like a little girl...

I'd probably be generous and sell him a third box so he can get a decent zero first... ;-)

I saw a box in walmart last night and quickly bought it up. It was the first box of .223 I have seen on a store shelf since before Christmas. Since I figured the run on ammo was coming, my father in law and I went halves on getting all the tools and equipment need to start reloading. Unfortunately even component supplies are drying up, and for the most part you can't find .223 bullets anywhere (with the exception of some of the specialized match stuff).

The biggest trouble I am having is finding .22 lr. I haven't seen any for sale in weeks. The guys behind the counter laugh at you when you ask if they have any. I luckily had over 1000 rounds on hand but I generally shoot at least 100 rounds of .22 per week.

We've completely stopped weekly range visits until 9mm is available again.

I squeed like a Japanese schoolgirl at a Hello kitty event when I ran across a "lost" stash of range ammo in my garage the other day. . . in a caliber I don't even have a gun for anymore.

He's gotta go shoot the thing, drop and reload a few magazines, and learn to field strip & clean it. If you've got some cheap ammo to lend him maybe he can even learn clearing procedures. No reason that can't be accomplished with only 2 x 20 rd. mags.

Early in January, I made a habit of going to luckygunner.com a few times a day for about a week and looking at magazines. One day, bam!, there they were. 30rd Magpul, $40/ea. By the time I finished checkout, they were out of stock.
bulkammo.com get .223 every couple of days, if you don't mind paying $1/rd.

There are 43 30rd pmags at LG right now, and 19 1000-lot cases of .223 at BA.
There's no shortages. Just banditos.

You must like your co-worker a lot. Aside from one jerk that I've already discussed on my blog, I have another that repeatedly asked me to sell him an AR over the last year but always claimed "money problems" when I actually brought one around to sell him. Now he's going ape to get me to bring it around again, and he's actually upset that I've decided to hang onto it. Go figure.
Why these folks think that now that guns are scarce, I'm supposed to be their personal discount gun shop is beyond me. They had their chances.

we don't have a lot of ammo for the ARs, mainly because we didn't have money for it even before the election after my wife lost her job. Food, house repairs, etc came first, but still managed to buy at least a box or two a month when we had a bit of spare change. Better than nothing.

No. I'm not giving you that Federal .30 Carbine back!

Breda might need it.
