Best Guns on TV

TV these days is swinging back to to more action and less political correctness.

I like it.

TV shows are again portraying guns and gun users as forces for good.

On of my current favorite shows is Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (T:TSCC)

It has excellent gun selections: Glocks, Remington 870's, MP5's, AR10's, AR15's, M1A's...

Stargate, Jericho, 24, Flashpoint are all good.

There is also a great show on the Discovery channel called Future Weapons that is really excellent.

Even computer games are now getting on track with real gun goodness. My son just got Call of Duty 4 for the Xbox 360.

--Good gear.

Godwin's Law and Gun Owners

"Godwin's Law (also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies) is an adage formulated by Mike Godwin in 1990. "

The law states: "As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."

"Godwin's Law is often cited in online discussions as a caution against the use of inflammatory rhetoric or exaggerated comparisons, and is often conflated with fallacious arguments of the reductio ad Hitlerum form."

Often in the gun ownership debate gun control advocates rapidly descend to invoking Hitler or the Nazi's. To me this has always signaled winning the debate. The Hitler card is usually played when logic won't help, or worse, when logic is against them.

--I find it also very amusing when they invoke Hitler but most don't know that Hitler and the Nazi's were huge gun control advocates.

Uncle Ted Speaks the Truth

I often wonder what is truely the motivation of the people behind Gun Control. Because, they say, Gun Control is not about controlling guns it's about fighting crime. They are leaping to the solution before they analyze the situation.

--Sad Really...

Range Report

A buddy from high school was in town this weekend that I had not seen for a couple years. He brought with him a brand new Remington 870 that was still in the box.

We bought a case of clay pidgins and 10 boxes of 12 gauge.

At first I hit about 1 in 3 clays. By the end I was in the zone at 9 outta 10!

I was even double tapping them!

--Big fun

Nutty Professor detained for carrying gun at airport

Comedian Jerry Lewis was detained by police in Las Vegas late last week when airport screeners found an unloaded gun in his baggage, authorities said on Tuesday.

Lewis, 82, had a small .22-caliber handgun when he arrived at the security screening area on Friday at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, said Officer Ramon Denby, a spokesman for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The comedian was briefly detained and the gun was seized. Lewis was cited for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, Denby said.

Lewis, half of a wildly successful comedic duo with singer Dean Martin in the 1950s, was traveling to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, to perform a one-man show, a source close to the comedian said.

The weapon was registered to Lewis and he will need to attend a court hearing to get it back, Denby said.

Youtube as a resourse

www.youtube.com can be an excellent resource for a gun owner. Try it. You can find a demo for field stripping most weapons. Here is an example of field stripping a Glock:

Everything from an SKS to a Desert Eagle are in there. Very handy

Sunday Morning Danger

A gunman opened fire at a church Sunday and killed two people, including a man who witnesses called a hero for shielding others from a shotgun blast.

Seven adults were also injured but no children were harmed at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church. Church members said they dove under pews or ran from the building when the shooting started.

The gunman was tackled by congregants and eventually taken into police custody.

Sunday morning at Church is one of the few times during the week that I go unarmed. VA has this absurd rule that I cannot carry a concealed weapon at Church during the service.

Izaak Walton League

The closest shooting range to my house is about 4 miles away. It is a membership based, national club called the Izaak Walton League.

Founded in 1922, the Izaak Walton League is one of the nation's oldest and most respected conservation organizations. With a powerful grassroots network of nearly 300 local chapters nationwide, the League takes a common-sense approach toward protecting our country's natural heritage and improving outdoor recreation opportunities for all Americans. We invite you to learn about our work and to join us in supporting important conservation initiatives in your community.

They have several programs, in addition to shooting:
  • Clean Air Programs
  • Energy Programs
  • Clean Water Programs
  • Outdoor Ethics Programs
  • Hunting and Shooting Programs
  • Off Highway Vehicle Programs
  • Sustainable Living Programs
  • Wilderness and Public Lands Programs
I think I will look closer at the organization.

--I'll let you know what I find out.

Those were the days...

I had one of these when I was a kid about 40 years ago.

--It was a different world then.

Stupid people

I want to take a moment to condemn an entire class of Stupid People.

This particular set of of dumb asses are the ones that have small woman fire incredibly large firearms as a joke. These assholes also film these events AND post them on Youtube to show the whole world the depth of their assholerie.

These unsafe, stupid buckets of vomit need a swift kick in the nuts.

-- that gets filmed and posted to Youtube.

Ruger GP100

One of my favorite hand guns is the Ruger GP100 .357 mag.

I actually bought this one and presented to my wife as a birthday gift several years ago. She liked the design because it was simple, reliable and would shoot .38 rounds, .38 special as well as .357 magnum.

This allows her to work her way up to heavy rounds and keep the costs down at the range.

This gun is a great shooter. I love the finish and the grip is a joy to hold. Just like my wife!

--I think I own more Rugers than any other brand!

YouTube and Guns

You can go to Youtube.com and find many gun resources. It can show you how to field strip your Colt 1911 or your AR-15. Demos of Glock machine pistols like above are great.

It has shooting range reports and demos. It can show you the recoil of most any gun or round.

--And major funny stuff too.

Comments from a guy that owns both Glock and 1911 .45's:

Simply put, Glocks are the McDonalds of combat handguns. (I love McDonalds, BTW) They are reliable, consistent from gun to gun, simple, high capacity and inexpensive. Pick any Glock up and it will shoot like every other one you have ever picked up. Like McDonalds, they are good, really good, but can only get so good.

1911's are the private American Grill of combat handguns. Some are great, some are bad. Every individual 1911 is different. If you pay $499 for a new 1911 you will not get the reliability, capacity or consistency of a Glock. The Beauty of 1911s is that you can upgrade it in many ways, unlike Glocks. Triggers, sights, grips, slides, springs, hammers, mags all can tune it up to be way better than a Glock. But it costs. It's not unusual to pay $1500 - $2500 for a tuned up 1911.

The Springfield XD line may be the best compromise. They seem to satisfy all my requirements. I have an XD 9mm now. I need an XD .45.

The thing I dislike most about the Glock is the safety/trigger system. I miss the manual safety and light pull..
The thing I dislike most about 1911's is capacity. I believe eights rounds is not enough.

I will get a sweet 1911 one day and make a hobby of tuning it up.

--So I like both. Discount neither. But I carry a Glock.

Benelli Nova 12 Gauge

I have always been a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 guy when it came to pump action 12 gauge shotguns. Classic, simple, proven, designs that have stood the test of time.

Then I shot the Benelli.

The first thing I noticed is that is... smooth. I can't think of a better word for it. The action the edges, the way it shoots.

The design is the same classic pump as the 870 and 500. Only 2 features vary. It has a button in the slide belly that allows you to eject a round and NOT feed the next. Nice to unload. The other feature is the slide bottom covers the load chamber, helping to prevent drop feed jams.

--Try it. You'll like it.
