Still waiting for Liberal Outrage over Fast and Furious?
Please note that in the hole this cartoon says, "300 Dead". I believe this is a low estimate.
Hey media, what if the two guys in this cartoon were going to get married? What if this was why they were going to be shot? This should be the millstone around Holders neck!
Chick-fil-A doesn't have a damn body count, dammit.
--Sorry. This is really pissing me off today.
Gun Free College Zones
This is from the rules at Virginia Commonwealth University where my daughter will attend this fall.
The Right to Academic Freedom and to Equal Educational and Occupational Access
The University is committed to providing an environment conducive to academic freedom, free inquiry, and equal access to educational and occupational opportunities. The principle of academic freedom requires all persons to respect another’s dignity, to acknowledge another’s right to express differing opinions, to cultivate and to cherish intellectual honesty, and to promote freedom of inquiry and expression. It is therefore the policy of the University that no act of any member of the University community shall serve to restrain or inhibit access to opportunities or the exercise of these freedoms.
To that end, no person, either singly or in concert with others, shall willfully:
1. Discriminate against another person on a basis not reasonably related to the educational or job functions involved on the basis of race, ethnicity, sex, religion, color, creed, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, and age.
2. Harass or intimidate any person.
3. Cause physical injury or threaten any person with force or violence.
4. Have in his or her possession any firearm, other weapon, or explosive, regardless of whether a license to possess the same has been issued, without the written authorization of the president of the University. This restriction does not apply to persons whose duties lawfully require the possession of firearms or other weapons.
5. Disrupt or prevent the peaceful or orderly conduct of classes, lectures, meetings, or other University functions, or interfere with the lawful freedom of other persons, including invited speakers, to express their views.
6. Falsify or forge an official University record or document; or file documents with the University with the intent to mislead.
7. Lie, cheat, steal, or plagiarize. Violations of lying, cheating, plagiarism, and stealing will be adjudicated through this or other applicable documents. Student academic violations of lying, cheating, plagiarism, and stealing will be referred to the VCU Honor System for adjudication.
8. Violate any duly authorized University rule or regulation issued pursuant to a specific University function, for example, regulations applicable to social events, the library, or University hospitals.
9. Incite others to commit any act which has been herein prohibited.
10. Bring charges against a member of the University community that are spurious, or that are intended primarily to harass or maliciously defame, or that are designed to intentionally overburden the adjudicatory system.
--Yeah, this will keep her safe.

| The Tiny Menace |
I confess that the blog posts for the last two weeks were scheduled in advance via the magic of mystical blogger tools.
I spent most of the time in my favorite hammock reading SciFi books and napping.
The rest of the time was spent eating a variety of taste meats, drinking beers and bourbon around a campfire, or enjoying early morning coffee and conversations.
The only thing even remotely gun content related is that I got to see Breda Fallacy! She even cooked the best camp meal EVER!
--Going to be a serious Monday...
Quotes of the Week
"To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it"

"Liberty is not collective, it is personal. All liberty is individual liberty."

Video Of the Week
A friend sent me this link via Email and I expected it to be one of those dumb girls with guns vids.
This is actually an interesting video of a woman shooting a 10 gauge shotgun. She has a decent grasp on how to shoot a beast like this.
Watch the video to the end. Watch the way her shoulder and arm reacts to the recoil in the slow motion playback.
--I need a 10 gauge shotgun!

Movie: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
I just watched Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull again and this time through I was really enjoying the various guns in this edition.
I can't say the movie was the greatest. The Special effects were really good though. Harrison is getting a bit old for the action. He did a good job though.
Miller Rating - 6 of 10
From the Internet Movie Firearms Database:
--Someone should explain about non-ferrous metals to the screen writers.

870s and 500s
![]() |
| Standard Remington 870 and Mossberg 500 |
I almost titled this post "870 vs 500" but decided not to because they are both excellent reliable tools.
A massive amount of after market accessories are available for both. Most are super easy to install yourself.
What I wanted to post about is the minute differences between them that are of consequence when I use them.
The most notable difference, and this is very important in a defensive use situation, is the location of the manual safety. The Mossberg is on the top and the Remington is just in front of the trigger guard. The top safety is more ambidextrous. Lefties usually get the Left hand version of the 870.
I would be remiss if I didn't note that I have had the 870 jam on me once. But just once in hundreds of rounds. My older, more heavily used, Mossberg has never jammed in thousands of rounds.
--Either one is a great choice.
Blogmeet September 29th
Dulles Expo Center4320 Chantilly Shopping Center
Chantilly, VA 20153
It's 22 Miles from Washington, DC - Directions: I-66, Exit 53B, go 3 miles Rt. 28 N, turn right onto Willard Rd., take 2nd left into the Chantilly Shopping Center, Follow signs to Expo Center.
I love this Gun Show. It is huge. I have purchased several firearms there at good prices. They usually have everything. New items, Class III, optics, old and new firearms, gadgets, gear, knives, books, accessories, ammo (esoteric and bulk), pretty much everything.
Anyway, I go to this gun show often. I have gone with TBolt several times. I have heard that many other bloggers attended the same show at the same time as me.
So the idea behind this Blogmeet is go to the gun show on the same day and the all get together for dinner and drinks and hanging out for a bit. Maybe a restaurant, maybe my house to grill burgers with bacon and pepper jack cheese, hanging at my bar or at the fire pit, having a cold beer or two.
--I'm doin it! Mark you calendars now. More Later.
The Wood Project
Most of my rigs are black. The scary kind that make liberals nervous.
I am thinking of putting together a 5 gun set of guns that are done in matching wood.
--All in a display case.

Gun Blogs are not the only bit of social media that have people that love Guns and the 2nd Amendments.
Facebook has tons of gun related content. It has open and closed forums. It has topic specific groups for things like 1911s, Glocks, Skeet Shooting or Deer Hunting.
Guns on Facebook can get people in trouble, or actually sell people guns or gear.
Lots of Blogs have corresponding Facbook pages to facilitate communications with readers beyond comments in the Blogs.
Facebook is trying to all things to all people. I can't say I am feeling it will replace my blog. But the one thing it does is get breaking news out FAST.
--Facebook is good and bad. Neither and both.

I actually saw this vid a long time ago. This is an impressive bit of shotgunmanship!

Mossberg 930 SPX
I had occasion to try one of these recently and I loved it. The one I tried had an after market adjustable stock as well! It was a really sweet package. It was the bell of the ball for shooting skeet that day.
One of the best things about it was that it is made in the USA and has a street price of under $600 new, depending on the configuration.
--I will keep an eye out for one at the gun show in September!

Cabin Dreams
I am hoping that one day soon my wife and I will be buying some land that either already has a cottage or cabin.
I would love to build one from local materials if possible.
I'd start with a small one that would later be used as the guest house. Build the main house later.
There would be enough land that hunting, fishing and trapping would be an options.
I would like to set up shooting ranges that would go all the way out to 1000 yards and could be used in any kind of weather.
I would like the cabin to be completely off the grid. Any power would come from cleverly concealed solar panels or wind mills.
I want it to be beautiful. Like a garden that is completely natural and low maintenance. Paths for strolls and comfy benches, chairs and hammocs scattered about for reading.
I would like it to be far away from people.
I want it to have fruit trees, and grape vines and lots of edible landscaping.

Hidden Gun Cabinet
I love hidden compartments.
I bet I could build one of these in my garage. All you have to do is to reserve the back most 4 inches!
You can find more information here.
--Good stuff.
