I can remember when I outgrew my small steel safe. Back then I didn't have room for a bigger one in my bedroom closet.
If I had thought of this idea I would have done it. You could get one from Freecycle.org or Craigslist.com for free! Simple locking freezer refit would be an inexpensive solution to keeping your guns safely locked away from kids and hidden enough to keep a lot of smash and grab burglars away. It would be easy to add a dehumidifier too.
I like to attribute via links but this one came in via Pinterest!
--And inconspicuous yet handy solution!
Go ahead if you think its really neat , but I wouldn't . Freezer locks are more a stern look than any security , and in this economy a freezer is a big sign labeled " FREE MEAT HERE " . Guns instead would just be a nice bonus for thieves .
ReplyDeleteThis would be good to keep kids out. That is your greatest risk. Most homes have kids in them at some time. Very few are actually robbed.
ReplyDeleteI agree. This is more on the lines of a locking gun cabinet than a real security solution.
ReplyDeleteHowever, when I was 6 years old, I picked the lock on the freezer to get to the icecream.
It's "concealment", not "cover" for your collection.
ReplyDeleteHowever, with a better lock on it, it would keep merely curious kids out.
Perhaps labelling it with "Deer Hides for Tanning", or "Septic System Chemicals" might deter thieves. {chuckle}
Not the first time I've seen that :-) And it works...
ReplyDeleteI've seen situations like this in movies. The gun is wrapped in plastic and stored in a freezer. However moisture content is what gives me concern though. I would have to wrap each article in plastic and store it in the freezer until I got my humidifier.
