Happy Halloween

3D bleeding targets
Halloween means Trick or Treating in my neighborhood. I usually get a couple hundred kids at my door.

Every year there are several zombies.

I wonder if this year the count may be higher. Zombies still increase in popularity. Books, TV and Movies about Zombies remain popular.

New targets are coming out every day at the range.

Everyone knows to kill a Zombie you need a head shot! The training propaganda programs have been working.

--So if you see Zombies tonight. Be sure before you shoot...

Hurricane Sandy

We temporally interrupt our scheduled programming for a brief message:

The storm hammered my area in Virginia. Millions of homes are without power. Trees are down all over. People are just poking their heads out for a peek today.

My wife no longer thinks I'm nuts for storing emergency candles, flashlights, batteries, water, food and toilet paper!

--Be safe out there.

New Gun Store!

There is a new Gun Store near me. I stopped in today today for the first time.

It is actually is in a log cabin building. Very nice.

Plus they have an actual Ferret Armoured Car for sale!

The thing is even road legal!

They said inside that they have a Barret .50 semi auto fit for the top.

What I wonder is would it be legal to drive the thing on the highway while looking through the para-scopes?

Perfect for the Zombie Apocalypse!

It could be yours for $30k!

--I love the antique plates!

Updated: Thanks, Murphy!

Friday Gun Porn

As I wait for the SBR ATF paperwork to get done I can't help but to keep upgrading my new AR. I loved my Lego's as a kid and now this is way worse.

Lefties Rejoice

Stag Arms 2L - Lefties Rejoice!
I hope T-Bolt doesn't get pissed off because he just built his first AR-15!

Stag Arms makes a true left handed upper for the AR-15 platform.

Just the upper is all you need. It fits on any AR-15 lower with no modifications.

If you just all an ambidextrous safety onto the lower you are never going to have to worry about hot brass again!

The upper is actually a picatinny flat top. this pic shows it configured with a handle sight. The upper only can be had for about $150, with barrel and all about $500 depending on configuration.

UPDATE: I changed out the pic. Thanks, Anon.

--I must suck to be left handed.

Zombie Run!

Zombies are still big. So are these obstacle course runs that involve crawling in mud at some point.

The last one of these had almost as many Zombies as runners.

I see this one is being held at a paintball park. I think it would be great to issue a paint ball gun to the runners and goggles to the Zombies.

Head shots!

--That would be some fun!!

Gun Porn

Chiappa Rhino
I finally got to shoot a Chiappa Rhino. The big bad ass stainless steel version.

I have to say the feel of the thing is amazing. The recoil with .357mag rounds is a smooth push. It also doesn't ride up. Target re-acquisition seems easier.

It is really difficult to describe. The recoil doesn't kick the gun up so much. It doesn't want to rock your wrist back as much. But it does push the impact all the way straight back. This is all due to the new grip configuration and that the rounds fire from the BOTTOM of the drum.

This model is the big ugly scary looking world of hurt. It's ready for add on items, like optics or a bayonet!

I really need to try the small compact version. That could very easily be an IWB carry piece.

--It needs a picatinny Zombie killin spike!

AR-15 Pistol Mods

I am still planning a few upgrades for my AR-15 Pistol. I'm not the only one!

Licking The Third Rail

Reaching his hand toward one of the biggest political Third Rails
I swear President Obama doesn't want to get re-elected.

During the first debate he acted like his was distracted because he was missing Dancing with the Stars, like the whole being President this was just a big bother.

It's like after that he went back and talked to Michelle asking, "What issue will cost me the most votes if I mention it at the next debate?"

Not only did he show himself opposed to the 2nd Amendment, he brought up a renewal of the failed Assault Weapons Ban. and he added to the mix banning inexpensive guns to the mix.

Here is a good article by Emily Miller in the Washington Times.

There is a lot of swing voters that are gun owners. People that only voted for him last time because gun control was not on his overt agenda. Democrats, the poor, women and minorities included who may now be starting to believe Fast and Furious.

--I don't think he wants to be re-elected. I'm sure it will be NRA's fault...

I Ordered Another Holster

Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe
I have been carrying my 1911 in my Crossbreed Holster for a couple years now. I want more options.

I love the holster though.

So I ordered another Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe in black for my Beretta Px4.

My Px4 is a double stack .40cal and I will be interested in seeing how the extra 1/2 in thickness will print.

It will be double the rounds and many times the reliability.

--I will post pics wearing it when it gets here.

The Walking Dead

I watched the Season 3 series premier of The Walking Dead on Tivo last night.

Spoilers Ahead:

First thing I noticed is that they FINALLY took the time to fabricate some suppressors.

There was a TON of Zombie Killin! Yes!

That little kid, Carl, is becoming a badass!

Next thing is one that bugged me. I would have dispatched all the Zombies I could THROUGH the chain link fence BEFORE going in.

I would strip and clean and wear the riot gear. Heavy biker leathers at least.

Katana's are a must have during a Zombie Apocalypse!

Nice leg amputation! Ouch!

--Need to find that armory ASAP!

Quick Review: Founders

Last year I read the book Patriots by James Rawles and really enjoyed it.

I recently picked up the prequel, Founders.

This is the back story of the main characters from the book Patriots.

I can remember thinking to myself as I read Patriots, "They walked half way across the country? That's gotta be an adventure."

It was an adventure!

This was an audio book. An MP3 audio book. 12 hours on one CD. Excellent reader too.

The story was good. I enjoyed it very much. The plot and characters were developed nicely. The detailed descriptions of the crash and subsequent temp government was interesting.

The UN positioned as the antagonist was a bit of a stretch.  If the US has had an economic collapse the rest of the world will be in a pile of hurt. The UN would not have the cash to support occupying troops.

I also believe that the story did a little too much religious witnessing.

In all, it was interesting and instructive. If you like a good story of the apocalypse, like me, you will like it.

--The guns were good!

Stylish Mans Guide to Concealed Carry

A friend sent me a link to an article about concealed carry from The Art of Manliness.

Ambidextrous

JR Carbine with EOTech and Magpul sights and Gemtech Suppressor
I have been cleaning up and reconfiguring the JRC.

It's designed to be ambidextrous. The safety, charging handle, and ejection port can all be on the left or right side. No gunsmith required.

I have discovered that I like the Charging Handle to be on the left.

On the Road Today

I am traveling today. All the states I am traversing allow concealed carry with my VA permit but there are small variations in the laws by jurisdiction.

For instance, in Ohio you are required to tell the Police immediately that you have a permit and are carrying. Even if you are just pulled over for a traffic stop.

It takes work to dig out the tiny variations.

--Do you know any good sites that detail this kind of info?

Busy consuming this book.

Pistol Build

DPMS AR-15 Pistol
The last of my pistol parts arrived today and assemble time was quick and easy. I did not even have to chase and detent springs!

Can't wait to take this baby to the range for a test run.

So while my SBR paperwork is being processed I now have two fully functional AR-15's. When the paperwork is done I will just switch the lowers.

As pictured, this rig came in at just under $800.

--The big question is: what should I name it?

Debate

Obama vs Romney Debate
As a gun owner I will be voting for Romney. I voted already actually via absentee ballot. I don't love this guy. I long for the day when I can vote for someone instead of against.

Here is why:
  • Nomination of Supreme Court Justices
  • Eric Holder
  • Hillary Clinton
  • Lack of re-election worries in a second term
I believe Romney clearly won the debate. He was on message and well prepared. I think the President has relied too much on the teleprompter for the last 4 years.

Gunshow Blogmeet Recap!

The Nations Gunshow was fun as always. Prices were not that great but the selection and diversity of the firearms in one room was great. My major purchases were a new upper for an SBR I have planned and another EOTech 512. I love the other one I have.

This one takes standard AA batteries and only weighs a few ounces more than the next model.

I also got a few small items like a cleaning kit and taste meat products.

We went out to dinner after the show shut down at 5pm. Bob O's was forgettable but the conversation was great. TBolt, Broken Andy, MikeW, Laura and Chris, Stretch and Mrs. Stretch kept the stories coming!

After dinner we rolled back to my house and drank a bit of Bourbon, beer, wine and water! No one went thirsty. Lots of good laughs with good people.

Suddenly it was 1am.

Coffee drinking commenced at 7am. Eggs and BACON soon followed. Thanks for a great time guys!

Part 1: How to Register a Short Barrel Rifle (SBR)

So close, yet so far away... --ELP
This weekend was the Nations Gun Show! I met up with a pile of friends had some fun and spent some coin!

More about the Blogmeet tomorrow.

At the gun show I found the exact AR-15 Upper and Barrel that I have been wanting. I was amazed that could pay cash and take it home with just a reminder from the dealer that it was to be used with a pistol lower or an SBR registered receiver.

The threaded barrel is ready for a suppressor. (another future project) As you can see in the photo the rig has a 7 inch barrel and the full upper.

I just cannot put it on this lower until I do the paperwork. I found the right form and instructions in the same AFT Forms archives as the forms for suppressors.

Here is the series of events so far and what is up next:
  • Purchased the AR-15 to be converted to an SBR
  • Purchased the short barrel and upper
  • DO NOT ASSEMBLE IT!
  • Download and fill out these Forms
    • Include the SN of the Receiver
    • Manufacturer
    • Make and Model
    • Your personal info
  • Go to CVS for two passport photos
  • Go to the County Courthouse and get two fingerprint cards ($10)
  • Submit copies for the County Sheriff to sign
  • Wait...
Next:
  • Receive signed forms in the mail (about 10 days)
  • Make color file copies
  • Write a check for $200
  • Send it all to the ATF
  • Wait...
--I will make another post on this project with each milestone.
