Dominant Eyes

I was looking at this photo of my brother from our last range run and realized something.

Yes, he is left handed.

But he is apparently right  eye dominant.

In this case he is shooting my suppressed Ruger 10/22 and it has no recoil to speak of. If he shoots something with a kick, like my AR-10. His nose may not be happy.

  1. Common? No, not really. But not particularly UNcommon, either.

According to Wikipedia about 1/3 of the population is left-eye dominant, while about 10% of the population is left-handed.

I haven't had my coffee yet, but that rattles around to about 25-30% potentially being cross-dominant. I don't think the actual number is that high, but it's definitely up there.

Or at least that's my WAG.

(A piece of scotch tape on the lens of his dominant eye will force him to use the other one, probably with pretty good results.)

  2. Cross dominance isn't uncommon.

More often it is right hand, left eye. That is me.

  3. Zer is correct. And the 'correction' for most people is to shoot the rifle with the same side as the dominant eye, regardless of how they shoot a pistol
