Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has issued a legal opinion that it is lawful in Virginia to carry a weapon into a worship service for personal protection.
The statute in question says that "if any person carry any gun, pistol, bowie knife, dagger or other dangerous weapon, without good and sufficient reason, to a place of worship while a meeting for religious purposes is being held at such place he shall be guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor."
According to the attorney general's office, the statute generally prohibits carrying a firearm into "a place of worship while a meeting for religious purposes is being held at such place."
But the statute provided an exception to the prohibition when an individual has a "good and sufficient reason" for carrying the firearm.
Cuccinelli's opinion essentially says that legally carrying a firearm into such a place for self-defense constitutes a "good and sufficient reason."
--Just remember, the law hasn't changed. The courts will decide the first time it comes up.
I will be carrying concealed to church today.
ReplyDeleteI think this is awesome. I might actually start to attend church again.
ReplyDeleteSo I am assuming that since this not a legally binding Law, that those Gov't Subdivisions which want to put a Blanket Ban on Disarming the Populace in regards to Religious Property can still do so, but it would be kind of dumb to try to enforce State Law, because the A.G won't help prosecute, right?
ReplyDeleteSo does this mean that it's okay for the IslamoFascists to set up an Armory in the basement of their Mosques? Never mind, silly question, THAT Branch of Islam doesn't care about the Law, and they are already Stockpiled. Now if only the U.S. Attorney General would authorize ATF to go in and try to seize some of those Weapons for the sake of the Children...
