Smith and Wesson 539

The first gun I ever bought for myself was a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun. I think it was 1984 and it was the dawn of the modern age of 9mm. I'm not talking about German Lugar's or NATO or the Government stupidly moving from the .45 ACP to 9mm.

I'm talking about Miami Vice.

Suddenly 9mm's and short shotguns were cool in a big way. Bigger and cooler than any guns in TV or movie history. Tom Selleck in Magnum P.I. never wrapped his 1911 .45 in cool like Tubbs and Crocket did for their guns. Others tried: Starsky and Hutch, Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry, Charles Bronson in Death Wish and Elizabeth Kaitan in Assault of the Killer Bimbos. They never made the gun into another character on screen like Miami Vice did.

The S&W 539 I bought as my first was a limited edition. It still holds up, after all these years. It still shoots like a dream even after thousands of rounds.

--My pastel green suit, not so much.

Do you Have Kids?

I have kids. I love them more than anything in the universe.
  • If I didn't love them I'd never let them see a real gun.
  • If I didn't love them I'd demonize guns.
  • If I didn't love them I'd keep them from being safety trained.
  • If I didn't love them I'd make sure they never touched a REAL one.
But I do Love them. So I demystified guns.  I let them handle all kinds of guns. Showed them how to tell a real one from a toy. I taught them the differences in the various types. I taught them lots of rules. More than the classic 4 Rules.
  • If you see a gun, STOP! Don’t touch it.
  • Leave the area.
  • Tell an adult.
  • If you see a gun and don’t know whether it’s a real gun or just a toy, treat it like it’s a real gun.
  • Tell me. Even if it's days later.
Adapted and expanded from the NRA’s Eddie Eagle materials. Children should be taught rules as soon as they are old enough to talk. Rules should be added as soon as the child understands and can repeat the earlier rules.

--If you hate your kids support gun control.

Home Defense

I have added my new Bushmaster to my home defense rack in my bedroom.

I believe that an AR15 is a great option for home defense. It's easy to use, has light recoil, holds lots of ammo, and the rounds won't exit your house and hurt your neighbors.

I also have a Glock 17 and Mossberg 500 short shotgun with a pistol grip and Surefire Tactical light. The 12ga is too much for my wife to shoot.

--She will be adding the AR to her training routine.

We need to make this happen

It looks like the Hearing Protection Act has a good chance of happening.

The deregulation of suppressors could happen under President Trump.

I will be writing my congress critter...

Time to go on the 2nd Amendment Offensive

We have two years to reset the laws restricting the 2nd:
  • Nation-wide concealed carry
  • Suppressor Hearing protection Act
  • Remove import restrictions
  • Eliminate NFA, SBS, SBR
--Let's be ready by January 20th.

Glock 26 Upgrade

I made an upgrade to my Glock 26 that fixed the only issue that bothered me about its ergonomics.

I found a magazine extender. In addition to adding an additional two  rounds, it gives a place for my pinky to rest.

I recommend this simple mod. It was only $10.

--I may also upgrade the slide and mag releases.

Timing

I wonder if another event will happen to distract the media from the most recent batch of Clinton Scandals?
  • A big Trump disclosure from the distant past
  • A big crime event
  • A terror attack somewhere
  • A Halloween tragedy with children
  • A video of something strange
  • UFOs
Basically, something to distract fools while they make the elephant disappear.

It's Thursday

The election is really wearing me down. Between TV and Facebook I am sick of all of it. So here. I went camping this weekend and took this pic. I was carrying my Glock 26 on this hike. Enjoy.

Range Report

Went to the range this weekend With my buddy Tony. We ran into TBOLT there as well

It was seriously crowded. We had about an hour wait.

I am finally getting used to my Glock 26. As you can see from the target, I have either dialed it in or it has broken in now. I have about 200 rounds though it so far.

The Glock 26 works with mags from my Glock 17 and even the 33 round mags.

In the lane next to us there was a guy rocking some full auto. He had an MP5, an M4 and was what looked like an HK91 (.308). He also had a suppressed full auto M4 SBR (.223).

The guy had really good muzzle control. We were on a 50 yard indoor range. At that distance, muzzle rise could have gotten into the ceiling easily, but never did. He burned through a ton of ammo. I believe he was an off duty police officer. Fun stuff.

Random Tuesday

I didn't watch the debate. I do not believe that the debates will change any minds.

I am starting to believe Trump will win for the same reasons President Obama won. He is the least establishment candidate. Hillary is clearly a career politician. The same reason Bernie was so popular. It was also a mistake for her to wear red.

I also think Trump would be way more fun for late night TV comedians. Plus the media would start doing it's job again as a watchdog.

In completely unrelated news, nothing to do with the pending Zombie Apocalypse, I got a new AR15 upper yesterday. More on that later.

More killings by Radical Islam. Media says nothing to see here. Go watch Dancing with the Stars.

The deficit is about to hot $20 Trillion. Nothing to see here either.

--Off to work. I have taxes to pay.

Random Mondays

It's Monday and a well is dry.

Self imposed writing deadlines have seriously cut into my range time.

My wife found an ammo can for me at a yard sale for 1$. Always handy. I Need about 10 more.

Still have not found another holster for my Glock 26. The search continues.

It has cooled off. I love the Autumn.

The Hillary Clinton meat puppet ran it's batteries all the way down yesterday. The lies flow easy. No health issues here. She was too hot. (it was 79degrees) Today they are saying pneumonia. It looked like she was having a stroke. More lies coming soon.

The Grey Man: Partners

I received The Grey Man: Partners by J.L. Curtis this week in the mail.

It has found it's way to the top of my dead tree pile.

Here is the description from Amazon:

Texas Deputy Sheriff John Cronin and his granddaughter Jesse Miller have out-stubborned, out-fought, and out-lived every challenge life's thrown at them so far... But there are times when a little help is needed.

Slowly recovering from being stabbed, John Cronin gets a tip from inside the very cartel that's hunted him, that plans are afoot to smuggle terrorists and missiles across the border. Meanwhile, Jesse and her husband Gunny Sgt. Miller are losing the battle with an administration and a military bureaucracy determined downsize the military by whatever means possible, and tie their hands regardless of the damage and danger to its own.

The agencies responsible don't want to act if Cronin won't give up his confidential informant, but when word comes that the missiles and terrorists are landing, it's time to put a team together and handle things the old fashioned way...

This book is written by fellow blogger OldNFO. He is a great guy and a personal inspiration for my own writing. This is book 4 in the series. Go buy them all!

House Keeping

This morning I cleaned up the blog page and I was struck by how many blogs I had to delete from my blog list on the right.

More than half of the gun bloggers have quit. Facebook killed most blogs I think. Some of the die hards are still on my daily coffee schedule. Other people take different roads.

Even I don't post as much as I used to. It's not that I don't spend time at the keyboard. I am writing Scifi now in addition to blogging.

I might retire this blog one day, but as long as I still enjoy doing it I will keep it up.

--I may blog even more after I retire. Happy Friday!

44% Have a Gun in the House.

Pew Research Center, in a poll on guns released Friday, showed that 44 percent of the country has a gun in the house.

Anti-gun groups keep trying to say that gun ownership is on the decline. Even though the stats on sales and woman buying guns say otherwise.

The last stat I saw, years ago, was less than 20% had a gun in the house.

--All thanks to President Obama...

Well is dry today.

I need to go to the range.

Dammit.

That is all...

Looking for a new Upper

Here is basically the upper I am looking for. I have had to admit to myself that I have a suppressor habit. I can stop any time I want!! It's a 10 in SBR with a dedicated can.

Yes, I know that suppressors on AR15s don't make them silent. It takes the edge way off to the point you can shoot without hearing protection.

--Still worth the hush.

The new daily carry

The new Glock 26 is a great form factor for me.

Here are the two holsters I have tried so for.

I am in the market for another.

I like the wide single clip of the one holster, but I also like the hard side holster because it does not collapse, making re-holstering difficult.

--Do you have a favorite?

Guns in Fiction

I read another novel this week written by someone that did not know anything about guns.

Sigh.

Glocks don't have thumb safeties kind of mistakes. Clips vs Mags verbiage kind of things.

I am working on the outline for my 5th novel. It is Scifi but will take place in 2016 in Richmond VA. One of the main characters will carry a Beretta 92FS. The descriptions of the gun, it's utility, and why she carries it will all be detailed. There will be suppressed .300 Blackout AR-15s in the story and other guns.

All will get the details right. (I Hope) Mostly because I own them...

In the mean time, read these! Click the image!

Friends

The wife and I had dinner with friends last night. They are recent transplants from New England.

Conversation eventually turned to good places to go shooting. He had been to the range at NRA HQ so far.

We told them all about Elite Shooting Sports in Manassas VA. We also discussed Bull Run Shooting Center.

I love living in Virginia where they remember what freedom is like...

Random Friday

Day number 11 of the heat wave. Only 93 degrees today.

I am wearing a Hawaiian shirt.

Another Metro derailment. Sheesh.

And another elevator cable broke in the Washington Monument. DC sucks at maintenance.

Gun content is thin this week. I am still lovin the Glock 26 for concealed carry.

After being on vacation for two weeks I am really enjoying my King Bed!

Blogger keeps crashing!

I love this!

Everyone should read Clinton Cash.

It is currently NUMBER ONE on the New York Times bestseller list!

Peter Schweizer presents a graphic novel adaptation of Clinton Cash, the breathtaking expose of Bill and Hillary Clinton's money trail. From their personal fortune to their "close personal friends" to the shady Clinton Foundation, this is the story of the most corrupt presidential candidate ever.
