Quotes of the Weeks

"The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it."

- Michelangelo

"I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is
determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition."

"Optimists these days learn English, pessimists learn Chinese, but realists learn how to operate an AK-47."

I am at the Nations Gun Show Today

Gun show Blogmeet!

Map to the Gun Show
On Saturday September 29th there will be another edition of the Nations Gun Show.

Dulles Expo Center
4320 Chantilly Shopping Center
Chantilly, VA 20153

It's 22 Miles from Washington, DC - Directions:  I-66, Exit 53B, go 3 miles Rt. 28 N, turn right onto Willard Rd., take 2nd left into the Chantilly Shopping Center,  Follow signs to Expo Center.

I love this Gun Show. It is huge. I have purchased several firearms there at good prices. They usually have everything. New items, Class III, optics, old and new firearms, gadgets, gear, knives, books, accessories, ammo (esoteric and bulk), pretty much everything.

Anyway, I go to this gun show often. I have gone with TBolt several times. I have heard that many other bloggers attended the same show at the same time as me.

So the idea behind this Blogmeet is go to the gun show on the same day and the all get together for dinner and drinks and hanging out for a bit. We will meet by the Hotdog Tables, in the front of the hall, in the corner, at 1pm and 5pm. Email me and I will send you my cell number too. Look for this hat:

I also have made reservations for dinner at 5:30pm at BOB O's for 20 people. It is in the same parking lot right across from the Expo.

--I'm doin it! See you there.

Range Safety

I like to think I am polite when I am at the range.

I mind my own business and normally don't speak to other people there unless spoken too.

Unless I see a safety issue.

In the case of safety issues I am never shy. I will ask people to be mindful of their muzzle and various other things.

I was recently at the range and it was hot. REAL hot. Tons of shooters and even a couple Uzi's rocking full auto. I turned from the line and noticed a woman there that did not have her eye protection on. She had some, but wasn't wearing them. I had gotten a hot casing burn that very day.

I simply said to her, "Range is hot. You forgot your glasses." gestured at them in case she could not here me through her ear plugs.

She looked at me like I had a shrunken head.

She didn't put on the glasses. No skin off my nose. It's her eyes. I did my duty.

Turns out she was a Range Officer.

I was a Range officer for several years at the NRA Range when I worked near there. During the training, the key thing they made clear was that RO's lead by example. ALWAYS.

--Just sayin...

Global Bacon Shortage

I don't know why Bacon goes so well with shooting. It's probably because Bacon goes well with everything.

If you have been watching the news or reading the web you already know about the horror of the expected Global Bacon Shortage!!

This time last year it was $15 a can. Now it is $23 a can!!

Oh the Humanity!

If you like your Bug Out Bag to be properly provisioned, you need to get some Tactical Bacon!

Make some room next to your extra ammo, in that backpack, for a can of smokey goodness.

It even has a shelf life of 10 years!!

--It's worth $23 a can if the pending Zombie Apocalypse hits!

Wounded Warrior Blogshoot

Glock 21 .45ACP with Gemtech Suppressor
It was a beautiful day for the range, made better by supporting a good cause.

Murphy over at Lagniappes Lair (the organizer) should be proud of another excellent event!, Tempestuous Sea, THOTPolice (and Missus), Another Day AnotherOld NFO, Proud Hillbilly, Shekel, MSgtB (and Missus), and a many commentators, like Bubblehead Les, and Stretch, and The Axe, and Morlock, and AZMrMacs. And many more.

I stole the list from TBolt who was also there!

The 340 Defense Range where it was held was really nice and shady  It was just the right size and configuration for the event. It had lanes from 7 yards to 400 yards. Love it.

Lots of great guns there including a couple Uzi's in full auto!

--Fun was had by all!

Failure to feed.

I am trying to sort out a feed jam on the JR Carbine. I had 2 of these failures in 300 rounds this weekend.

As far as I can tell the bolt is not sliding back all the way to be able to pick up the back lip of the cartridge. In the large version of the image you can see where the bolt started trying to pick up the round.

It does it with force. enough to damage the bullet and the casing. It will happen with or without the suppressor and all the mags are Glock factory mags.

Another thing that may or may not be related is that it is rattling all the nut loose. Had to pause a couple times to tighten up everything.

--I need this thing to be an Easy Button.

To know anything well involves a profound sensation of ignorance.

Larry Correia

Stretch and Larry
On Sunday morning I went to NOVA Armaments to see Larry Correia who was stopping in there for a bit.

It was nice. There was a small very happy crowd. Larry was having a good day. I introduced myself and mentioned that I knew JayG and NancyR. He went on and on about how cute Susan was. He continues to monitor the increasing imbalance of like counts on Facebook.

I met some other bloggers and commenters there too.

Stretch, who I met at the Wounded Warrior Blogshoot last year was there and he had his custom-engraved Smith & Wesson model 625 with the MHI logo and the custom Dragonworks holster that Dennis made with the MHI logo.

Stretch wanted a photo of Larry holding it.

When Larry was handed the firearm, without missing a beat in his conversation, maintaining excellent muzzle and trigger discipline, he opened and checked to see if it was loaded. No big deal. I totally respect that.

I even got a good picture of Larry, Stretch and the gun. I could not find Stretchs email address to get permission to post it. (Update: Stretch emailed me!)

--If you get a chance to see Larry on his book tour, do it. Great books. Great guy.

Quotes of the Week

"Let me get this straight. You have so much clean water you shit in it?"

- Unknown African Boy

I think you should defend to the death their right to march, and then go down and meet them with baseball bats.

- Woody Allen

Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome.

- Isaac Asimov

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

- George Orwell

Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him work diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built.

- Abraham Lincoln

I am for violence if non-violence means we continue postponing a solution to the American's problems just to avoid violence.

- Malcolm X

Sales are Up

I stopped into one of my favorite gun shops to look at holsters didn't find anything buy the place was packed for 4pm on a Thursday.

When I got to talk to a guy he said sakes are climbing the closer we get to the elections. ARs and AK are selling like hotcakes.

All the items that could suffer another assault weapons ban blah blah blah.

Looking at this crowd I could not help but thinking, hoping, that these people vote.

-TGIFF

Heads. On. Pikes.

The US ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens was murdered with three other Americans when terrorists stormed the US consulate and killed them. They then burned down the consulate.

I consider this an act of war.

If the Libyan Government (what there is of it) does not come down hard on these villains. We should declare war.

Real War.

Make an example.

Zombies: Getting it Right

There is so much to love in this photo.

First off, it has a woman that is kick ass. No rescue required. Not only is she competent and aware, she is smart in her pick when it comes to Zombie defense firearms.

She has an AR-15 with a Trijicon ACOG®, good capacity magazines and a pile of spares.

She knows the minivan itself is a weapon.

--I want her on my Zombie Apoc Team!

Quotes of the Week

An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.

--Robert A. Heinlein

Love is that condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own... Jealousy is a disease, love is a healthy condition. The immature mind often mistakes one for the other, or assumes that the greater the love, the greater the jealousy.

--Robert A. Heinlein

One of the sanest, surest, and most generous joys of life comes from being happy over the good fortune of others.

--Robert A. Heinlein

Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.

Justin Beiber is an Asshat

Gun-Wielding Justin Bieber

How many Four Rule violations do you want to stack up in damn photo.

For Christ sake, will someone slap some sense into this kid.

This is not the first gun pic or video of the idiot mishandling firearms.

Between his car and gun assholery he is headed for a tragic accident.

Oh, by the way, the man whose belly he is pointing the at is his girlfriends father.

--Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over.

Guns Don't Kill People, Bullets Do

I have been watching in the news the classic actions of Gun Grabbers dancing in the blood of recent tragedies.

They know they are losing the fight on gun control so their most recent attempts are on Bullet Control.

There are fresh calls to stop the sale of ammunition on the Internet. If they can't stop it they want to report it.

The Colorado shooter had a, OH MY GOD, Stockpile of 6000 rounds he got from the Internet. I don't consider 6000 rounds a stockpile. I call it a good start.

They also want to control the amounts of ammunition you have on hand. They are demonizing "Stockpiles". They are questioning why we "need" all that ammo.

Finally they also want to control the features of the bullets themselves.  They want to limit the penetration, expansion and just basically how lethal the rounds are. They call various types names to incite fear like, "Cop Killers" or "Armor Piercing" or "Sniper Bullets", if they can penetrate body armor. "Why would you need that to hunt?".

--"Why do you need...?"  Because Fuck You.

Range Report

On a beautiful day I packed the car with my freshly finished JR Carbine and my pal Tony.

I tricked out the JRC with the LASER, the EOTech and the GEMTECH Suppressor.

It was time to work it.

There is so much love on this baby now I cannot believe it.

First off, all three sights are on the same point out past 30 feet. On the bench at 25 yards it may be the best groups ever with a .45ACP. All the holes touching each other.

Maybe it's just the added weight but I thing the suppressor reduces the recoil a lot in addition to reducing the sound and eliminating all flash.

I Love EOTech. Out to 100 yards with this it is awesome.

--At 100 yards all the hits would have dropped a Zombie!

Today there was another Gun related Groupon locally!
