Collections

It was my anniversary weekend and the wife and I took a beautiful drive in the Blue Ridge mountains on Skyline Drive.

On the way back we stopped at several antique and junk stores. I saw lots of cool collectables of interest to gun enthusiasts. I saw civil war era rifles, hand guns and swords. I saw classic BB Guns and pop guns. Many other classic toy guns.

My favorite was a classic cap gun collection. I took a picture but didn't buy it. Might have to start collecting them if I see them individually in the future. I'd make a display case like this one.

--I also want to do an "In Case of Zombies Break Glass" display!!

Widow shoots home intruder while on 911 call

This is why women need to be armed. The responding Police made good time getting on the scene in six minutes. But it was far too slow.

--Six minutes is an eternity.

She Shot Her Stalker

Here is the back story.

Click the link below.

"I'm writing this staring at the mess the police left for me, in a bit of a fog. After 6 months of stalking and threats against my life my stalker finally snapped and decided to kick my door in and make good on his promise. Out of fear, the past month I had begun sleeping with a chair propped against my front door, to give myself a few extra precious seconds in case of emergency. I shudder to think how differently things might've turned out had I not barricaded the door. I awoke around 115 am to the sound of the door giving way after one kick followed by the sounds of my stalker struggling to dislodge the chair while forcing his way inside. I jumped up and grabbed the gun I've learned to do everything even shower with. I stood at the top of my stairs and fired twice. Hitting him in the chest, I hear his scream, his disbelief that I'd stood up for myself.. 0 to 100 in milliseconds. I've never been so afraid in my life. I do not know if he is living, but I do know the police have him and that's what helps the most. For months of him evading the police I began to question whether he was unstoppable. Untraceable. Houdini, he would murder me and get away with it. As of now I'm in a haze of guilt, surprise, relief and disbelief. I shook as the canines drag him out from his hiding place under a bush. I survived, where so many people do not. Holy shit, I survived."

--I'm sorry this happened to you. Stay strong.

Suppressor Race is ON!!

My friend Murphy over at Lagniappe's Lair and I are having a friendly race.

We are both rushing as fast as we can to slog through the molasses of ATF Form 4 paperwork.

I bought mine at a local gun shop, he got his in a private sale for a much better price. I will need to start looking at the private market a little closer.

This actually makes two cans I am waiting for. One that is 9mm and one that if .308.

--I should start a set of paperwork to begin to register another SBR AR15 lower.

More Hidden Storage

I saw this image last night on Pinterest.com.

This is a DIY stash for a full size AR15. The concept is interesting though unfinished in execution.

I hope this isn't blocking an actual vent for heat or AC. My vents always end up full of dirt and dust.

The important lesson is to know your home. Know the gaps in the walls that can be exploited for hidden storage.

The same idea can also work well for a handgun in a discrete spot.

--Gotta love those handy guys!

Weekly Comic Wednesday

This begins what I hope to be a Weekly Comic Wednesday. This comic will detail the adventures of Clark and Ray. Clark is a Libertarian and Ray is a Progressive but they are both nerds that love Movies, TV, Scifi, Beer, Bacon, Bourbon, BBQ, Coffee and the Internet.

--No, it's not me and my own brother!

The New Addition

I purchased another suppressor yesterday. This one is for my Glock 17.

I purchased an AAC Ti-RANT. I decided on this can because it is designed to be used on other cals as well. Even 300 Blackout.

The internals are heavy duty Titanium and heat treated stainless steel.

So the timer has begun.
  1. Purchase date - 9/22/14
  2. Obtained 2 passport photos from CVS - 9/22/14
  3. ATF Form 4 completed - 9/22/14
  4. Two fingerprint cards. 9/23/14
  5. Drop off for County Sheriff signature. 9/23/14
Next up is the two fingerprint cards and submission to the County Sheriff.

It is worth noting that the guys at the gun store said that the ATF has more than doubled the staff processing Class III paperwork. They said the goal, after the backlog has been addressed, is to make the process be only 8 weeks.

--We shall see. I will keep you informed!

Another First Time Shooter

Random thoughts regarding my most recent new user:

Take a lot of time before going to the range set expectations. Explain the Four Rules as well as trigger and muzzle discipline.

Let the new shooter wear the advanced hearing protection so they can hear what you say but gunfire is still minimized.

She shot a wide variety of handguns with good control and strong wrists. Everything from a .22LR to a .44mag.

After an hour a new shooters arms get really tired.

Suppressors are great to help new shooters get use to recoil and report.

Seeing a 75 year old woman shooting a .44mag two lanes over was inspirational for this new user. That lady would have let her try her .500mag.

She preferred the revolvers. She did not like the ejecting of the shell casings. The hot brass dance formed that opinion. I even warned her about it in advance so she maintained excellent muzzle and trigger discipline.

I still get the, "I thought silencers were illegal!" comments.

It turned out she was right handed but left eye dominant. I need to research that issue more before our next range. She didn't seem to have a problem but is was odd. She also never missed the paper once.

Next time she wants to try more revolvers and AR15s.

--In all we have another happy shooter.

Friday Random Thoughts

Scotland rejected independence. I hope it doesn't end up resulting in violence. Many people are very spun up about it.

I need to do some scouting for deer hunting season. I have been a slacker so far.

Elite Shooting Sports Center is still not open but they have a Facebook page.

I bought a new threaded barrel for my Glock 17 9mm. I may have to buy a suppressor for it this weekend.

I am going to the Beerfest this weekend. I won't be carrying.

Beware the anti-gun lobby. The have given up on banning "assault weapons" and will shift their focus to harassing gun owners with stupid laws.

Going to the range this weekend.

I will be wearing a kilt.

I am thinking of adding a web comic to this blog once a week. I went to the Small Press Expo last weekend and it kind of inspired me.

This weekend will be full of beer, bourbon, cigars, spicy food, fire, gun and talking like a pirate.

--Happy Friday, Humans!

DC is going May Issue

Concealed carry is coming to Washington DC.

I saw on the news this morning that DC, in compliance with recent court findings, is setting up a process to obtain a concealed carry permit in the District.

Of course will have burning hoops to jump through including large fees, deep background checks, expensive training and proven need. Basically the Maryland model. Which is a near prohibition.

This ensures that rich peoples security details will be armed, but no guns for you! I think that the fact that the murder rate in DC is so high should be proven need.

More 3D Printed Guns

As the materials and methods improve we will see more and more 3D printed guns.

This interest the media is creating will also increase the number of ols school zip guns made.

Here is another list.

Just wait when they find out how easy it is to build a Crossbow in your garage! Silent and Deadly!

--3D Printers are way better for disposable suppressors!

Z Nation

I just watched the first episode of the new Syfy show: ZNation

It is a show set three years after the Zombie Apocalyse has hit. A rag-tag group of people are trying get to a specific place in California. No it's an amusement park! The show is violent and raw and not for kids.

The first episode spends a lot of time introducing the characters and the driving plot for the arch the show. It has some potentially interesting characters.

They also have a lot of guns on the show. Good guns. It will be interesting to see if the sniper guys or other characters guns become larger than life.

--The show will be on my weekly Tivo list! I hope it's good.

The Hypocrisy of Bloomberg

If you have a Billion dollars and an armed security detail 24/7, you have the luxury of spending millions to disarm everyone else.

Here is why he will fail:

NOIR: Episode 9

I still really like his show. Big fun!

--I wish I had a place like that to shoot!!

Threads

I was wondering the other day if the suppressor I purchased for my .308 Remington 700 would work with me 300 Blackout.

It will fit. It's going to rock!

I even took the Flash Hider off the 300 Blackout and tried the thread protector ring from the .308 and it was a prefect fit.

--This will be fun.

Stream of Consciousness

I didn't have a queued up for today so I am just going to wing this one!

I saw this piece of art on This Isn't Happiness. It has several things that are my favorites: Killer Robots, Guns and Peeing Outside!

I was just reading that a town in Colorado just pasted a law requiring that every head of household own a gun and ammo. I don't like any law that requires me to buy anything. Not guns or healthcare.

I just saw on the TV news that some soccer mom fired a warning shot to stop six parents from beating a soccer coach that would not put their kids in the game. No arrests so far.

I need to research something. Does a .308 suppressor work with a 300 Blackout?

--Off to work for me. Happy Hump Day!

Todays NRA

I read a great article called "Why the “New NRA” Terrifies the Political Left" that addresses the invalid stereotype of members of the NRA. It talks about the NRA staff as well.

Among the NRA commentators are:
  • a gay multi-racial ex-Google employee (Chris Cheng)
  • a Venezuelan Olympian immigrant (Gabby Franco)
  • a white female (Natalie Foster)
  • a bespectacled hipster (Billy Johnson)
  • an  African-American lawyer (Colion Noir)
  • a former navy SEAL (Dom Raso)
  • a former beauty queen turned tactical training company CEO (Nikki Turpeaux)
They come from all walks of life, and different parts of the world, but their common, unifying trait  is what they are not: the “uneducated fat old white guys” that is the stereotype of gun owners perpetuated by the media.

Archangel 700 Precision Stock Remington 700 Short Action

I forgot to mention the Archangel upgrade stock I installed on my Remington 700:

Here is how it looked installed:

This also shows the integral bipod deployed.

Another great thing about this stock is that it uses M14 detachable mags. It comes with a single 10 round mag and I have ordered a couple 20 round mags.

--It will still be months before the ATF finishes my paperwork. They cashed the check though.

Gone Camping

I'm going camping this weekend with a couple friends.

I always take guns when I go camping even if we are not going to be shooting.

I will be taking my suppressed Glock 21 and my AR-15 SBR. But no redheads, dammit!

--I added the bayonet for JayG!

NY SAFE Act Investigation

Read this article regarding a raid at a gun shop.

Albion Gun Shop Records Taken, Gun Owner Arrested, as SAFE Act Enforcement Barrels Down

"The NY SAFE Act makes detachable magazines on a semiautomatic rifle illegal for purchase after the SAFE Act passed, as well as required for registration as of April 2014 if purchased before the SAFE Act passed."

The report sounds really pissed about the Safe Act. That's good. He wants the arrest to go to trial so the jury will hang or acquit.

--Stupid law passed by weak men in a panic.

Freedom Rifle

I saw this drifting around Facebook and it amused me.

-- I love Discreet Freedom.

SWATting

I was reading about the increased occurrence of a thing called Swatting.

It was on the national news when a kid swatted an opponent while playing online games with on camera. They thought it would be funny to watch the SWAT raid live via webcam.

This is so dangerous. These asshats will call 911 and say that they have shot their mother and siblings and are about to start shooting other people. Or another equally violent story. SWAT shows up and breaks the door down with guns drawn and safeties off.

There are so many things wrong with this. Callers, even kids, are spoofing the caller ID to cause these raids. Cops are too militarized. The whole concept of No-Knock raids with battering rams. Dogs being shot. Wrong addresses raided.

Sorry. I was piling on there.

--We need more Adam 12 and less SWAT.

Teaching New Shooters

One of the things I enjoy doing is taking new shooters to the range.

It's a thing that was common when I was a kid. Everyone had guns, everyone taught their kids. My Elementary school even had an indoor rifle range and every 6th grader was taught safety and target shooting.

If you want to give shooting a try I will be happy to take you for the first time. Memorize these before we go:

The Four Rules

1) Treat all guns as if they are always loaded
2) Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy
3) Keep your finger OFF the trigger until your sights are on the target
4) Be sure of your target and what’s beyond it

The Two Disciplines

1) Muzzle Discipline:  Watch where you are pointing that damn thing!
2) Trigger Discipline: Keep your booger hook off

--Let's go shooting!

Guns of Christmas

My wife loves me.

Every year she puts up nine Christmas trees in the house. This year I think she will be sneaking in a tenth!

Every year she buys me a new Christmas ornament that relates to shooting!  This year she found these three early!

One day I might even rate and entire gun related Christmas tree!!

--Maybe I will get a Red Rider BB Gun this year!!
